I was very nervous at the initial appointment, before the op. BUT as soon as i was introduced to Dr Chan Wing he calmed me down. he explained everything in detailed to me and that it would be painless, which it was. The location, the recommended hotel ( Ramada by Wyndham ) etc was just superb. The hotel is right next door to the clinic and within 5 minutes walk from Belfast High Street.

I have just had cataract surgery in both eyes, three weeks apart and I'm delighted with the result. My vision is now bright, clear and sharp, the result is more than I could have hoped for and I will now not have to wear glasses. I had a cataract in one eye which required surgery, the other eye only had a slight cataract which was not problematic, however the day after my first eye surgery and after seeing the result I arranged with Cathedral Eye Clinic to have the procedure on my other eye three weeks later. Both my cataract procedures were carried out by consultant Mr Niraj Mandal who explained the surgical procedure to me beforehand. I had no concerns and felt no discomfort during the 15 minute procedure for each eye, in the days after the procedures I experienced minimal short term discomfort which I would describe as slight grittiness, I am sure that I can attribute any lack of post op discomfort to the skills of my surgeon Mr Niraj Mandal. The staff at Cathedral Eye Clinic are all very professional and helpful, my experience was a very positive one and I would certainly recommend this eye clinic.

I contacted Cathedral Eye Clinic after getting the go ahead from my own ophthalmologist. The appointments were easy to arrange, and staff were really friendly and helpful, and I left each appointment knowing that all of my questions had been answered fully. The procedure was much less stressful than I expected! Professor Moore and the nurses were very kind. My eyes were irritated for about 4 hours after the procedure, but that subsided quickly, and the next day I could see! It was reassuring to have an appointment the next day, week and month after getting SMILE, as I could ask questions about healing and my vision. It’s been just over a month, and in my last appointment, I was told my eyes were healing very well. My vision is fantastic, and so far, I haven’t experienced any dry eye or discomfort. I would completely recommend SMILE at Cathedral Eye Clinic, they’re so lovely in there, and really professional.

Having to seek Cross Border surgery after waiting months with no prospect of an appointment to see a Consultant, I decided to seek help in Belfast. I was blown away by the professional service received from the minute I entered for the Consultation and again for Surgery next day. Every staff member was extremely helpful and friendly. Everything was explained thoroughly and I felt so safe facing the surgery. Mr Chan is an extremely kind surgeon and very talented professional. The aftercare is second to none. I cannot believe the difference in my eyesight within 48 hours. My biggest surprise was looking at tv which is now so clear with vibrant colour which it possibly was but I was unable to see. I am so delighted I made this trip instead of waiting indefinitely just to see a Consultant.

From initial contact through to consultation, procedure and follow up the system has been seamless. Everything was explained fully and the results have been life changing. I had worn contact lens (gas permeable) for 40+ years and have a short sight level of -13.5 to -14.0.
