Dr Duncan Macrae is a Consultant Paediatric Intensive Care Doctor based at the Royal Brompton Hospital. He is also Clinical Lead for Paediatric Collaboration with Chelsea and Westminister Hospital in London.
Dr Macrae graduated from the University of Dundee in 1996. He went on to complete his specialist training in Melbourne, Austrailia and in the UK. Prior to his current post, Dr Macrae was based at Great Ormond Street Hospital as Consultant Paediatric Intensivist for 10 years. He takes interest in the implementation of innovative approaches to his department such us a novel US risk management approach in intensive care with the hope of reducing hospital-acquired infections.
Outside his practice, Dr Macrae is actively involved in research and is currently looking into the glycaemic control in sick children. He has extensively published in books and in scientific journals. He regularly lectures internationally, organises and attends worldwide conferences and is involved with international organisations. He has previously volunteered his skills in China, Romania and Vietnam. Dr Macrae is president of the Paediatric Intensive Care Society and sits on the scientific committee of the World Congress on Paediatric Critical Care. He is also the associate editor for the Paediatric Critical Care Medicine and the paediatric editor for the European Journal of Intensive Care Medicine.
