Mr George Asimakopoulos is a Consultant Aortic Surgeon based at Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospitals. He specialises in Aortic Surgery.
Mr Asimakopoulos graduated from the University of Hamburg in 1992 and went on to complete his specialist training in West London. He then spent a year as a Fellow in Heart and Lung Transplantation at Harefield Hospital. He was previously based at Bristol Royal Infirmary as a consultant cardiac surgeon, where he performed over 230 heart surgeries a year. He joined the Royal Brompton in 2014. He has also achieved a PhD from Imperial College, London. Mr Asimakopoulos specialises in complex problems of the aortic valve, aortic root, ascending aorta and aortic arch.
Outside his clinical practice, Mr Asimakopoulos acts as an educational supervisor for trainee cardiac surgeons and medical students and he sits on interview panels for the national selection of trainee surgeons. Mr Asimakopoulos has published extensively in peer-review journals and his research interests include aortic dissection and training in cardiac surgery.
