Dr Karthik Ponnusamy is a Consultant in Anaesthesia and Pain Management, currently working at the East Kent Hospitals University Foundation Trust. His experience of over 15 years covers specialist interests such as the use of Ultrasound Guidance in Interventional Pain Management. It also includes the use of regional anaesthetic techniques in Chronic Pain Management and other spinal interventions and radio frequency treatments.

His speciality training in Pain Management was undertaken at St.Thomas' Hospital and St.George's Hospital in London. In October 2013, Karthik was appointed as a Consultant in Anaesthetics, Intensive Care and Pain Management at Kent and Canterbury Hospital. He also practices at the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford.

Karthik teaches on a variety of courses about Ultrasound Guided Interventional Pain Management and has also authored chapters in Ultrasound Guided Interventional Pain Management courses (under publication). He is interested in Airway Management and is the National Lead for the Difficult Airway Society's National Difficult Airway Database and Alert Card Project.

Karthik uses a holistic approach when dealing with patients who experience chronic pain. This not only includes injections but also the use of medications, psychological therapies and physical therapies.
