Dr Kolitha Basnayake is a Consultant Nephrologist at Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.
He
qualified from St Bartholomew's Hospital in London and completed his
higher specialist training at University Hospital Birmingham. During his
training he studied the mechanisms underlying chronic kidney disease,
and kidney disease associated with multiple myeloma.
He obtained a
PhD from the University of Birmingham after a period of research in the
UK and in the United States. He is currently continuing to conduct
research in kidney disease within the Sussex Kidney Unit and in
collaboration with Brighton and Sussex Universities. His work has been
published in high-impact peer-reviewed journals.
He has a wealth
of experience in all aspects of nephrology, and has benefited from
working in some of the best renal units in the UK, providing a
comprehensive range of services.
He has special interests in the
management of chronic kidney disease and hypertension. His other
clinical interests include acute kidney injury, glomerulonephritis,
kidney disease in pregnancy and kidney disease in multiple myeloma.
