I am a consultant cardiologist, based a Musgrove Park Hospital and The Nuffield in Taunton. I qualified from Guy's and St Thomas' Hospitals in 1995. I did most of my cardiology training at the Brompton and Harefield Hospitals, including a PhD in heart failure, before starting at Taunton in 2007.
My primary speciality is heart failure and devices (pacing). As a consequence I also see a lot of patients with rhythm disorders, particulary SVTs and atrial fibrillation; there is an important overlap with inherited cardiac conditions which I also manage.
More recently, I trained to do cardiac CT and I have also taken on the adult congenital heart disease work at Musgrove. I am a keen sportsman, particularly running and cycling, and see a lot of patients with sports related heart issues; I frequently contribute to Cycling Weekly and I helped to start the website Crickles and continue to provide input there.
Finally, I am keen on research, and aside from undertaking medical trials, I have a particular interest in Infective Endocardits, a rare infection of the lining of the heart on which I have published widely.
