Dr Mark Westwood received his medical degree from St John's College, Oxford and St Bartholomew's Hospital, London. He later received his MD in Physiology from Imperial College London. He completed his postgraduate cardiology training in a number of prestigious London hospitals including The Heart Hospital and the London Chest Hospital where he was appointed consultant in 2009.
Dr Westwood is currently a heart doctor (consultant Cardiologist) and lead for training and education at St Bart's Heart Centre. He specialises in assessment and management of common heart conditions including coronary artery disease. He has extensive expertise in cardiac MRI and was instrumental in setting up one of the largest Cardiac MRI (CMR) services for diagnosis of ischaemic heart disease in Europe. He also co-founded London CMR the second largest UK CMR meeting.
In addition to his clinical practice as an interventional cardiologist, he is Deputy Treasurer of the British Society for CMR and chair of the education committee for the International Society of CMR (SCMR). His clinical research focuses on CMR and he regularly lectures on all aspects of adult CMR at national and international events.
In his private practices, Dr Westwood focuses on general adult Cardiology including angioplasty and heart stents.
