Professor Michael Gatzoulis is a consultant cardiologist at Royal Brompton and Harefield hospitals where he treats private and NHS patients.
He graduated in medicine from the Aristotelian Medical School, Thessaloniki, Greece. He went on to complete his postgraduate training in congenital heart disease in the UK and Canada. In 1996, he was awarded a PhD from Imperial College London.
In 1999, he became head of the GUCH (grown-up congenital heart) unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital, suceeding Professor Sommerville.
Professor Michael Gatzoulis is the academic head of the Adult Congenital Heart Centre and the National Centre for Pulmonary Hypertension at Royal Brompton Hospital.
He is a professor of cardiology and congenital heart disease at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London.
