Dr Finlay is an accredited psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor - he is conscious about the environment of therapy and how it can induce anxiety and therefore tries to approach the situation in a non-judgemental, sensitive and comforting manner.
He also a member of the Harley Consultancy in London and operates within the ethical guidelines of the BACP.
He has particular experience in Adoption Issues, Anxiety, Bereavement, General counselling, Identity problems, Obsessional behaviour, Personal Development, Phobias, Self Esteem and Self-worth, Sex related issues, Sexual identity and Issues with fluidity.
I studied under Dr. Diane LeFevre at Basildon Mental Health Hospital. The post-graduate course that she supervised included a great deal of clinical practice on both neurotic and psychotic patients, after which I continued as an Honorary Therapist at Basildon until I established my own private practice. I now practice from my consulting room at my home in Stebbing which is in a quiet and discreet setting and also at The Harley Consultancy in Harley Street, London. I offer a calm and empathetic approach while we work through whatever is troubling you.
Although my primary approach is Psychodynamic, I also call upon a variety of other theoretical ‘models’ including Analytic Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural), Person Centred, EFT and Mindfulness as appropriate.
Prior to becoming a psychotherapist my career was in computer forensic analysis and data recovery. While it may seem that these are rather diverse paths to pursue, they are in fact strangely related:
Forensic investigation and recovery requires a diligent concentration on recognising clues in order to understand the difference between what is presented and what is actually the truth; as well as following threads to reveal the real story below the surface. This could be a model description of the process behind Psychodynamic Psychotherapy!
