About

Dr Finlay is an accredited psychodynamic psychotherapist and counsellor - he is conscious about the environment of therapy and how it can induce anxiety and therefore tries to approach the situation in a non-judgemental, sensitive and comforting manner.

He also a member of the Harley Consultancy in London and operates within the ethical guidelines of the BACP.

He has particular experience in Adoption Issues, Anxiety, Bereavement, General counselling, Identity problems, Obsessional behaviour, Personal Development, Phobias, Self Esteem and Self-worth, Sex related issues, Sexual identity and Issues with fluidity.

I studied under Dr. Diane LeFevre at Basildon Mental Health Hospital. The post-graduate course that she supervised included a great deal of clinical practice on both neurotic and psychotic patients, after which I continued as an Honorary Therapist at Basildon until I established my own private practice. I now practice from my consulting room at my home in Stebbing which is in a quiet and discreet setting and also at The Harley Consultancy in Harley Street, London. I offer a calm and empathetic approach while we work through whatever is troubling you.

Although my primary approach is Psychodynamic, I also call upon a variety of other theoretical ‘models’ including Analytic Therapy, CBT (Cognitive Behavioural), Person Centred, EFT and Mindfulness as appropriate.

Prior to becoming a psychotherapist my career was in computer forensic analysis and data recovery. While it may seem that these are rather diverse paths to pursue, they are in fact strangely related:
Forensic investigation and recovery requires a diligent concentration on recognising clues in order to understand the difference between what is presented and what is actually the truth; as well as following threads to reveal the real story below the surface. This could be a model description of the process behind Psychodynamic Psychotherapy!

I've been in and out of therapy for years - Peter is the first one who actually listened to me and gave me guidance. I'm so glad I was recommended to him it has probably saved my career.

I read another review which said talking to peter was just like an informal chat and that’s what it seems like. But then you realise that you understand your problem and can manage it. Very different to other therapists I’ve seen who just nod and ask me how I feel all the time. Brilliant and I'm really grateful.

My experience with Peter was peculiar! I had tried a few therapists before I came to him and had not had any improvement – I felt like I was being judged rather than healed. With Peter it seemed like we were just having an informal chat but he managed to make me realise what the core of my problem was and how to manage it. I have recommended him to my friends who also suffer with anxieties and cannot thank him enough for his help and guidance.

My producer recommended Peter as a "Go To "therapist for media people. Seems I am almost the last one in our team to seek help and I cannot thank Peter enough for the help he has given me. The experience is a bit strange in that you don't realise that he is uncovering the roots of the issues until suddenly, the fog clears and you see a way forward. I am so grateful, people in the public eye are perceived as "bullet-proof" but in reality, we are as screwed up as everyone else- we just hide it better. I hope this getes printed as a review or whatever-Peter is a god send.

Peter is an amazing counsellor - unlike many counsellors out there who simply listen, he really helps you focus on the issue at hand. It's wonderful to have a steadying rock out there when times are tricky and I am very grateful for his services.

I am gladly writing how much Dr. Finley helped me. I was desperately looking for psychologist help. I found Dr. Finley on line. He was very helpful and gave me appointment straight away. Dr. Finley helped me and taught me a technique to control my emotions. Emotions which where bottled up for over 18 years. Any emotions , stress ,anxiety mental and physical abuse should be dealt with professionals. It is impossible to deal with it on your own. I highly recommend Dr. Finley. Without Dr. Finley I would not be where I am today
