Dr Peter George received his Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2005 from Imperial College School of Medicine, London. In 2009 Dr George was awarded a National Institute of Health Research Academic Clinical Fellowship in respiratory medicine at Imperial College. He went on to successfully apply for research funding from the Medical Research Council and completed his PhD at the National Heart and Lung Institute; focusing on the role of the immune system in pulmonary inflammation.
He has trained in Respiratory and General Medicine at the most prestigious centres in London and completed his specialist training in interstitial lung disease at Hammersmith and Royal Brompton Hospitals as well as National Jewish Health Hospital in Denver, Colorado, considered by many to be among the leading respiratory departments in the United States.
Dr George is a Consultant Respiratory Physician at Royal Brompton Hospital where he sees NHS and private patients. He works in the interstitial lung disease unit and is experienced in diagnosing and managing all respiratory conditions including;
idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF)
lung diseases due to scleroderma and rheumatoid arthritis
smoking-related lung diseases
Research and Publications
Dr George is actively involved in research, recruiting patients to clinical trials of emerging and novel treatments for interstitial lung disease. He regularly presents novel research at International conferences such as the American Thoracic Society and European Respiratory Society annual congresses. He is an honorary senior lecturer at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London and has written book chapters and published a number of research articles in the most highly regarded medical journals.
Dr George has an active teaching role within Imperial College where he regularly lectures to undergraduate and postgraduate students. He also supervises and mentors junior doctors at all stages of their training within the Royal Brompton Hospital.
Dr George regularly organizes and teaches on educational courses for hospital doctors and GPs on all topics in Respiratory Medicine and has been the course director for a number of international preceptorships on the topic of interstitial lung disease.
