Dr Sameer Zar, Consultant Gastroenterologist, is currently working at the Royal Marsden NHS Hospital and within the Epsom and St. Helier NHS Trust. Dr Zar did his specialist training in gastroenterology and general medicine in the South West Thames Rotation. During this training, he undertook a PhD focusing on food-specific serum antibodies and the effect of food on bowel motility in irritable bowel syndrome. After he was appointed to his current role, he took on several more responsibilities including being the Lead for Upper GI Cancer and running a GI physiology laboratory and hepatitis service for his NHS Trust.
Dr Zar is an active researcher, having published numerous articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is also fluent in several languages including English, Urdu, Hindi, and Punjabi. He is happy to do consultants in these other languages when necessary.

Dr Zar and his associate Geraldine Munday were incredibly helpful and responsive. As an American living in London, I was scheduling my first doctors appointment in the UK. Geraldine patiently walked me through the process, always at the ready to answer my questions about scheduling a lower- and upper-GI and what was necessary to prepare. Dr. Zar was informative and thoughtful before, during and after the procedure, and had such a wonderful bedside manner. His sensitive and responsive approach to me as a patience made me feel like I was in the best of hands... which I was! I highly recommend Dr. Zar and his team.
