Dr Susanne Althauser is a Consultant Ophthalmologist, specialising in diabetic retinopathy. She trained in Germany at Albert Ludwig University Medical School, where she gained her MD in Ophthalmology. She then went on to a fellowship at the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, in 1994. She has been working at The Royal Free ever since. Dr Althauser has performed over 3000 cataract operations and over 1000 laser treatments.
Dr Althauser has special interests in diabetic eye disease treatments and is a Clinical Lead in Diabetic Retinal Screening. She is also an Honorary Lecturer at the Royal Free Hospital and was named Advanced Medical Leader for BAMM (British Association of Medical Managers). In addition to this, she is on the team of the Dispensaire Francais in London, a charitable organisation that provides medical assistance to French speakers in the UK.
