About

I am an experienced upper limb consultant surgeon, specialising in treating shoulder, elbow and hand conditions, using ‘keyhole' and ‘open' surgical techniques.

I was appointed to the University of Southampton Foundation Trust in 2016, where I offer a tertiary referral service to the surrounding regions. My passion is arthroscopic surgery but also am a keen academic in the world of research, currently working on combining arthroscopic expertise with my research passion of stem cells.

I specialise in upper limb surgery, encompassing the following:

Shoulder: Rotator cuff impingement and tears, shoulder instability, acromioclavicular pathology, shoulder arthritis, complex shoulder trauma.

Elbow: Tennis/Golfers elbow, ulnar nerve compression, elbow arthritis including arthroscopy/replacement, complex elbow trauma.

Hand: Carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, Dupuytrens contracture, arthritis of the base of thumb, complex hand trauma.

As well as his surgical expertise, he is currently the orthopaedic undergraduate lead for the University of Southampton, educating the next generation of surgeons.

Explanation

Pre surgery Mr Cox thoroughly explained the procedure and answered all of my questions without making me feel rushed. I was rather nervous, but during the surgery he made me feel completely at ease and I had a very positive experience. Equally happy with my follow up appointments, and the prospect of him undertaking surgery on my other hand in due course. Very professional surgeon with the addition of a great bedside manner which makes all the difference.
