Mr Oliphant is a highly-skilled Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, with specialist training in oculoplastic surgery. He provides his full-time professional expertise to Sussex Eye Hospital, Brighton, as part of University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust. He also works at Lewes Victoria Hospital, and Eastbourne District General Hospital (East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust).
He is a highly trained and experienced eye surgeon, having performed thousands of operations over more than a decade in ophthalmology. In addition to routine procedures, he also undertakes complex cataract surgery as part of his NHS practice. He has expertise in managing patients with watery eyes (epiphora) and those with orbital conditions such as thyroid eye disease, or patients who require or have undergone eye removal surgery.
Mr Oliphant completed his Medical degree at Cardiff University in 2010. He has since undertaken two fellowships in oculoplastic (eyelid), lacrimal (watery eye) and orbital (eye socket) surgery at Brighton and then the Royal Victoria Infirmary, Newcastle. These are both renowned institutions for this subspecialty.
He is also very passionate about educating future medical professionals and ensuring they have all the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their field. He leads the undergraduate programme for ophthalmology at Brighton and Sussex Medical School, where he contributes as an honorary lecturer.

he was very nice and professional, he explained whole procedure , what to expect before and after surgery, answered any questions and he was honest ,reassuring . I would highly recommend him.

We discussed various surgical options before deciding on the way forward. Huw was open and friendly at all times. All was explained clearly pre-op and his post-op follow-up was exceptional.

I can honestly say, Mr Huw Oliphant is the kindest, most caring consultant I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet. He is honest and straightforward with his consultations and assures you of the best outcomes. You feel that your treatment is very personal and that he truly cares about you as a person. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend him to anyone needing his services and skill. He is very proactive with aftercare service, making you feel extremely well looked after. I can’t think of a single thing that he could improve on.

Huw explained all options available to me, every stage of my operations and exactly what he was going to do and why, in addition answering any questions I had.

Huw is a very good communicator and an excellent opthalmologist. He explained the process and risks of surgery (bilateral blepharoplasty), plus the likely required follow up. The surgery was carried out well and he explained what was happening throughout. Post-surgery, he followed up personally and was always available by email for any questions. Discomfort during surgery and swelling post surgery were much less than anticipated.

I have felt completely reassured by and cared for with excellence by Mr Huw Oliphant throughout the patient journey. I was offered to be able to be fully part of the decision making process, and allowed time for reflecting on those decisions. I completely trust Mr Oliphant's expertise. Futhermore all staff I have been in contact with, including Mr Oliphant, had great bedside manner. As a patient I really felt like the whole service had a clear focus on patient needs. Thank you!
