I am a lower limb primary and revision arthroplasty Surgeon in West Sussex based in Chichester.
I was appoined to a Consultant Post in St Richards Hospital, Chichester in July 2011 and then in Spetmber 2020 moved to Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth to continue my consultant career
My private practice is at the Chichester Nuffield where I have been practising since 2013.
I qualified from Bristol University Medical School in 1999 having also gained a BSc in Anatomical Science during my medical degree.
After house jobs, anatomy demonstrating and junior surgical jobs in Bristol and the South West I successfully completed my specialist registrar training in Wessex gaining FRCS (Tr&Orth) in 2008.
During my training I developed a passion for lower limb arthroplasty and in particular Hip Surgery. I was lucky enough to gain a fellowship in the World renowned unit in Exeter at the Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Centre. This unit is internationally known and renowned for the development of the extremely successful Exeter Hip, the most used cemented Hip replacement world wide. During my year in Exeter I was lucky enough to work with the highly skilled surgeons and wider team where I developed my skills in primary hip replacement surgery as well as revision procedures including the use of bone impaction grafting, a technique developed in Exeter and Nijmegen for reconstructing bone defects in revision cases.
Following my year in Exeter I spent six months at the Nuffield Orthopeadic centre in Oxford working in the Bone and Soft Tissue Tumour Unit where I gained experience in Tumour and reconstructive surgery. In addition I was involved in Revision arthroplasty reconstructive techniques. Oxford has a Bone Infection unit and takes complex infected arthroplasty cases form the surrounding area. Whilst working in the NOC I developed an interest in Infected Arthroplasty management and now work very closely with an Orthopaedic Microbiologists in managing these complex cases.
I also have an interest in education and training and whilst working in West Sussex I was training programmed director for the Kent Surrey Sussex Orthopaedic training programme. I am currently a member of the selection design group for Orthopaedic recruitment.
In addition I am a regular faculty member on education and webinar arthroplasty courses and an active member of the British Hip Society.

Ms Hook has a very endearing and sympathetic manner. She readily identified the issues in question and immediately put a plan in place. The efficient X-ray service was as smooth as silk with the minimum of waiting time.

Ms Hook listened carefully and explained her thinking very clearly. She was at pains to do the best for me and warned that an operation would not necessarily solve my problem but would cause a lot of pain and could leave me in a worse position. We agreed that as a first step regular physio would help me to gain strength before perhaps taking more drastic measures. I very much appreciated her thoughtful manner throughout.

Ms Hook was very kind and understanding from start to finish. She explained everything to me and made the whole experience of revision TKR much easier for me. I would definitely recommend her to anyone having to consider this procedure.

I visited Miss Hook for a second opinion after diagnosis for a full hip replacement from another consultant. Miss Hook explained that a hip replacement would improve the quality of my life, detailed the procedure and how my life and the activities I love would return to normal by enabling me to live pain free again. I immediately felt that she was the consultant who I felt confident to move forward with the operation. On the day of the operation she was great, a complete professional with a caring attitude. I’m pleased to say the operation was a success. I’m three weeks post operation, walking without pain and enjoying life.

Samantha Hook is a star in all categories - she inspires total trust in her skill, expertise and care. Mention her to anyone - care professionals or patients - and they will smile and respond with nothing but praise, thanks and admiration - this applies both in NHS and private practice. I have had total knee replacements of both knees - one nearly 10 years ago and still going strong, one 6 weeks ago - and I’m back in fine fettle. She also performed a hip replacement for my husband with equally excellent results.
