RuthAnn Fanstone is a clinical scar specialist and physiotherapist with over 15 years experience. She is currently working at Scar Clinic London and the Chelsea and Westminster Foundation NHS Trust in burns, plastics and scar management.
RuthAnn has gained a MSc in Health Service Management from the University of London (UCL) and further qualifications in international health consultancy. Throughout her career RuthAnn has practised as a physiotherapist in 4 of the biggest burn and plastics services in the UK, working as the lead physiotherapist in 3 of those units.
Her main interest is the prevention and treatment of scar, burn rehabilitation and broad, emerging and innovative strategies to improve outcomes for people with scars. RuthAnn’s passion for burns and scars treatment has taken her extensively to learn, teach and work around the world; she has gained experience from some of the leading burn services in the world through internships at The Shriners, Galveston, Harborview and several other places.
Having gained so much experience has enabled RuthAnn to become a trainer in burns and soft tissue injury for the UK International Trauma and Emergency Register. She is a key contributor to the MSc in Burns Care, Queen Mary University London. She is Managing Editor of the newly launched medical journal Scars, burns and Healing. She is a Consultant with the Katie Piper Foundation progressing burn rehabilitation and investigating emerging non-surgical treatments for scar management.
