Mr Coleridge is a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in knee replacement and hip replacement plus sports injuries to the knee. He works as an NHS consultant at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth where he was appointed in 2005, as well as consulting and operating privately at the Nuffield Health Hospital in Plymouth.
Mr Coleridge was born in Tavistock, Devon and educated in Exeter before starting his university medical degree in 1990 at Bristol University. On graduating in 1995 he spent his junior house jobs as a doctor in Bristol and then Southampton. His senior training was undertaken in London, based at the Chelsea & Westminster Hospital, North West Thames Orthopaedic Registrars Rotation. He then went on to Victoria, Australia to complete his Senior Fellowship sponsored by Smith and Nephew, specialising in knee arthroscopy and sports injuries, as well as knee and hip replacements surgery including revisions.
During his training, he also completed a Masters Degree in orthopaedic engineering, with his research thesis on knee ligament reconstruction being completed at Imperial College London. His practice at the NHS hospital and the Plymouth Nuffield Hospital includes sports surgery to the knee including arthroscopy (keyhole surgery); complex ligament reconstruction including anterior cruciate ligament surgery and meniscal repair. He also undertakes navigated knee joint replacements; partial knee replacements and high tibial osteotomy, plus total hip replacement.
As part of his NHS practice, Mr Coleridge is involved in the teaching and training of junior surgeons as well as medical students and physiotherapists.
He also regularly updates GPs as part of their continuing education programme. He also travelled to Kenya in 2009 as part of the Kenya Orthopaedic Project also went to undertake orthopaedic trauma surgery to a very poor area of Mombassa in 2011.

Mr. Coleridge gave a good explanation and options for my knee injury with realistic outcomes. Easy to engage with, calming and professional throughout my time under his care. Fully recommended

I have always found Mr Coleridge to be kind and considerate every time I have had contact with him... He has never made me feel that he is in a hurry or hasn't got time to listen to a concern of mine, however trivial my concern maybe... He explained everything that would happen during my operations (total hip replacement both right and left legs - June & October 2018), in the detail that I asked him to... And discussed at length the most suitable anaesthesia for me... I trusted him then completely and still do.... With regard to my most recent review appointment (2024) with Mr Coleridge... He showed great compassion, realised how worried I was that damage had occured to my replacement hips, and organised a speedy same day X-ray... Once the X-ray established that my replacement hips were still in perfect alignment... Such relief!... Mr Coleridge said he would kindly refer me to the Hernia Consultant, as the pain/restricted movement of left leg was likely due to a femoral hernia... I am so very grateful to Mr Coleridge for his help and compassion, he explained to me about how hernia repairs were now done and the faster recovery rate... He didn't once make me feel (that with my hips being fine) this was no longer his remit, he still gave me time and we talked over various options for me... It was a comfort and joy to see him again... And I am so grateful for all his help... Thank you Mr C.

Simon is professional. After an initial consultation and an MRI scan, Simon explained what was going on with my knee and the options available. Simon gave me all the information I required to make my surgery decision. The surgery went as expected, and my post-op rehabilitation journey has been in line with pre-op expectations.
