Lancaster, LA1 3AQ
Mr Tim Millar is a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon with two decades of experience in general orthopaedic trauma surgery, lower limb arthroplasty and foot and ankle surgery. Mr Millar sees NHS and private patients for elective foot and ankle surgery at the Lancaster Hospital (Circle Healthcare) and Fulwood Hall Hospital (Ramsay Healthcare). His NHS practice is based at the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay where he deals with general orthopaedic trauma surgery, subspecialist foot and ankle trauma, lower limb arthroplasty and elective foot and ankle surgery.
Mr Tim Millar qualified in medicine from the Universities of St Andrews and Manchester in 2001. His interest in orthopaedics was sparked whilst on a medical student elective to Malawi and following this he subsequently commenced basic surgical training in the North West of England with placements at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary and the Royal Preston Hospital.
This was followed by a period of overseas voluntary work in an orthopaedic tertiary referral centre in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. On his return to the UK he completed further training posts as a junior trauma registrar in Shrewsbury and as a research fellow at Wrightington Hospital where he completed an MSc in Health Science and Practice.
He obtained his specialist registrar training number in the North West of England, working in a number of busy orthopaedic and trauma units including the Royal Blackburn Hospital, the Royal Preston Hospital and the Royal Bolton Hospital. He also returned to South Africa to work at the Baragwaneth Hospital in Soweto, one of the countries busiest trauma units.
In 2010 he obtained the fellowship in trauma and orthopaedics (FRCS T&O) and was then able to undertake advanced training posts in hip and knee replacement surgery at Wrightington Hospital followed by fellowship level training in foot and ankle surgery at the Royal Bolton Hospital and Wrightington Hospital.
In 2012 he returned to Lancaster to complete specialist training. During the final 12 months of training he developed an interest in more complex hindfoot surgery including advanced arthroscopic procedures although he continues with a more general lower limb and trauma practice as a consultant. He was appointed as a consultant in 2013 with Kendal and Lancaster being his NHS bases. He is a member of the British and European Foot and Ankle societies. Mr Millar has been dealing with my ankle issue for a couple of years, he has done a great job diagnosing the issue, suggesting options and ultimately fixing the problem. I couldn't recommend highly enough.

If I could rate outstanding that wouldn’t be an understatement. Mr Millar has carried out 2 surgeries on my talus injury, one to try and align a talus neck dislocation and another to screw back together, along with straightening and wiring my big toe. The outlook wasn’t good, with 90% chance of AVN. Although I’m not completely out of the woods, after X-rays and MRI’s there is no sign of any AVN or fracture issues. I couldn’t be happier. Although there is still some pain, considering the trauma to my ankle I can categorically say that Mr Millar is the Ankle Doctor and I wouldn’t want anyone else dealing with it. He is a true asset to Morecambe Bay region.

I am really pleased with both bunion operations I have received from Tim. I am a keen runner, and had been putting off having surgery. I was able to get back to fell racing within six months of the first operation, and I am just recovering from having bunion surgery on my other foot. Tim has done an amazing job, I can’t thank him enough.
