Mr Guha gave me the confidence that the operation on my left ankle for a total replacement was a positive move . I went into the procedure with that confidence knowing he was professional in his approach to me but feeling I wanted to do everything I was told to give him the return he was giving me. 100% success from the best surgeon I could have hoped for.

He was excellent. Polite, clear, concise and after minimal investigation appeared to have found the problem with my ankle, which was confirmed following an x ray.

HISTORY .As a result of a major ankle injury many years ago my ankle joint developed severe arthritis resulting in extreme pain whilst weight bearing and a painful reduction of movement in the joint. I received Cortizone Steroid injections into the joint space for several years which gradually became less effective and finally gave no relief at all. Every step that I took caused me pain. I was referred by my GP to Mr Guha and was initially seen by a member of his team who indicated that I would be a suitable candidate for ankle fusion or maybe a total ankle replacement. This was a difficult decision for me as I wanted to retain as much mobility as possible to retain an active lifestyle and continue to enjoy cycling, walking and motorcycling. I then attended a consultation with Mr Guha who examined my X Rays and assessed the condition of my ankle and measured the flexation of my arthritic joint. He confirmed that as I had retained some movement in the joint and given my overall physical condition and future aspirations regarding mobility and lifestyle that I would be a good candidate for a total ankle replacement. He then explained the TAR procedure in detail and informed me of the risks and all potential problems involved in this surgery. We discussed the replacement vs fusion options and he provided impartial and unbiased advice on what would be best for me. He answered all of my many questions fully and spent time on detailing the recovery process and all of the stages from admission to returning home and the regime for weight bearing and return to normal activities. During the consultation I found his approach to be totally professional and he inspired me with his confidence and communication skills and patience in explaining everything in “laymans terms” . The procedure may be fairly “bread and butter” to him but it was certainly a life changing event to me. After this consultation I felt that I was in safe hands and opted for a total ankle replacement. The surgery was completed in January 2020 by Mr Guha and I was discharged after 2 days in hospital where I received an excellent level of care directly from him and all of the ward staff . I returned after 2 weeks for removal of the back slab and transfer to a cast. Mr Guha was in attendance to review my X-rays and wound recovery progress. He once again provided support, encouragement and confirmation that all was going well. He gave advice on practical issues on what activity was acceptable over the next recovery period. Some 6 weeks later I returned for the removal of the cast and fitment of a walking boot. Once again Mr Guha was in attendance and provided assurance that all was in order and gave me clear instructions on development of weight bearing over the next period. His interest and personal control gave me immense confidence that my recovery was going to plan. I already felt that I had made the right decision and placed my future well being in safe hands. I received Physiotherapy for a period before the Covid 19 epidemic forced the closure of that department , but received ample information and instructions on activities that I needed to continue my healing and post-operative improvements. In early April I walked into the department for my appointment with Mr Guha in normal shoes, without crutches and most importantly without pain. As usual Mr Guha reviewed my Xrays and examined his work, declaring it a “text book” procedure. I have to agree. It has been a life changing event for me. Given that this follow up appointment was scheduled during the early days of the Covid crisis I was amazed and extremely pleased that My Guha was able to see me. This was above and beyond the call of duty as far as I am concerned. It is now 5 months since my surgery . I can walk without pain, drive, cycle, climb stairs (two at a time) and enjoy a normal and increasingly active lifestyle. I feel that I continue to improve day by day. I am sincerely pleased to be able to share my praise for Mr Guha and his team. I would have no hesitation to recommend him to anyone considering entrusting him with their care. A true caring professional and a true gentleman.
