Mr Andre Simon is a Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Director of Heart and Lung Transplantation at the Royal Brompton and Harefield Hospital.
Mr Simon graduated from the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel, Germany in 1994. He went on to specialise in cardiothoracic surgery and also achieved a Doctorate and a Higher Doctorate of Medicine. He has previously been based at Hannover Medical school, where he worked as attending cardiac surgeon. He led the Hannover Thoracic Transplant Program from 2007-2010 and was a key member in the development of minimally invasive lung transplantation. Dr Simon was director of the European Academy for Organ Transplantation from 2009-2010. He has also trained at Harvard Medical School, USA. Mr Simon is currently the lead of heart and lung transplants, ventricular assist devices and mechanical circulatory support at his NHS trust.
Outside his practice, Mr Simon has extensively published in international peer-reviewed journals and in a number of textbooks, he has raised over £2 million for research, he lectures at conferences, reviews journal articles and is part of many boards and advisory committees. He established and is president of the charity HeartHelp, which provides cardiac surgery to adults in developing countries.
