About

Mr. Andrew Jenkinson is a general surgeon in Harley Street, London specialising in Bariatric and Laparoscopic procedures. His interests include surgery for weight loss and diabetes, acid reflux disease, gallstones, hernia repair and surgical emergencies. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons and holds a Master of Surgery title for his research thesis. He is a member of the British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, the International Federation of Surgery for Obesity, the Association of Upper GI Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.

Mr. Jenkinson is passionate about upholding the highest levels of professionalism, care and integrity for his patients. He was inspired to a career in surgery from an early age and qualified from Medical School at 23. He undertook a rigorous residency and fellowship training program over 10 years including placements at the world-renowned Hammersmith Hospital, Royal London Hospital and University College London Hospital. His interest in surgical research was stimulated by the Master of Surgery thesis in the field of laparoscopic surgery for acid reflux. He has subsequently published over 50 research papers and presentations. He has been actively involved with training junior surgeons in the UK, Europe, America and the Gulf. His experience and knowledge in surgery mean he is highly sought after for his medico-legal opinion and is regularly asked to be an expert witness.

His first consultancy post was at the Homerton Hospital NHS Trust in East London. Here he oversaw commissioning and governance and rapidly built up the bariatric unit to become the largest NHS provider in London. In 2008 he moved to University College London Hospital, part of UCL, where he headed up the surgical bariatric service and transformed efficiency by introducing enhanced recovery protocols and decreasing ICU admissions. During his first 3 years at UCLH he oversaw an increase in the number of procedures performed from less than 100 per year to 350 per year.

In April 2017 Mr Jenkinson began work on a book explaining weight regulation and metabolism for patients suffering with obesity. The book , "Why We Eat (Too Much)", was published by Penguin in January 2020 and has gone on to become a critically aclaimed Sunday Times and Amazon bestseller.

Explanation

I was referred to Mr Jenkinson by another surgeon who was unable to assist me because he could not provide the necessary long term follow up. I am very pleased that he did. I have found Mr Jenkinson to be thoroughly professional, candid and realistic. My sleeve surgery in January 2018 went very well and, following his team’s clear advice, I have lost a third of my excess weight in 3 months. I only have one regret which is that I did not seek his advice years ago.

I had the laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy with Mr Jenkinson. My first consult was in mid November 2016 and I was walked through the procedure and given the pros and cons. My surgery was on the 30th of the same month and I am LOVING my sleeve. Thank you Mr Jenkinson for a really amazing experience to a scary but worth journey!

I found Mr Jenkinson to be a fantastic surgeon before and after my gastric bypass operation. His advice and information pre op was clear and straight forward and he put me at ease and addressed my concerns professionally. He visited me in my room the day after the op and was warm and empathetic. My operation was nearly six months ago and I’ve recovered well and adjusted to my new life without any unexpected or unexplained problems. I would highly recommend Mr Jenkinson to anyone considering weight loss surgery, it’s a life changing and life enhancing operation and I felt perfectly safe and reassured under the care of Mr Jenkinson and his team.

My experience of Mr Jenkinson & his team has been outstanding. I contacted Mr Jenkinson after a poor experience with a different private hospital. From the moment I had a my first conversation with Nathalie the process has been seamless, rapid & most importantly high quality. The experience in the hospital was first rate, high quality care & I felt like I received the best of attention. I cannot recommend Mr Jenkinson & his team more highly. 7wks on and the results are already life changing. I am delighted.

I first met Mr Richardson in January 2017 to discuss weight loss surgery. Having previously had a Gastric Band (removed 3 years earlier) I was apprehensive. Andrew very quickly put my mind at ease, discussed the benefits of each of the options open to me in an honest and transparent way. Having armed me with the information I was then able to make the right choice, with zero pressure. He operated on me in March and to date I have had no complications and lost over 38kilos. My surgery was pain free within less than 48 hours and scarring minimised. Andrew comes across with a combination of real optimism and integrity as well as giving you the feeling you are in the hands of a genuine leader in the field. A huge thank you from me!

Mr Jenkison has performed laparoscopic hiatus hernia operation on me at Wellington Hospital, London on May'17. He is professional, accessible, attentive, and incredibly skilled. He has kindly allowed me to watch the video recording of the procedure. I was mesmerized by the precision movements of the laparoscopic instruments which could not have been possible without the expertise refined by over 1500 operations. I will be eternally grateful to those hands.
