Mr Andrew Smith is a Consultant General Surgeon working at St James's Hospital, Leeds since 2006. He undertook his speciality training in General Surgery in Leicester and Nottingham and also completed an advanced hepatobiliary and pancreatic fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic in the US. Following that, Andrew completed research work at Nottingham University, for which he was awarded an MD with distinction.
Andrew is currently the Lead Clinician for Pancreatic and Upper GI surgery at St James's. His specialist interest is in pancreatic diseases (cancer and benign) and gallstone disease. This is in addition to broader general surgical conditions including hernias. His research interests are focused on pancreatic cancer, gallstone disease and patient-reported outcomes.
Currently, Andrew is the Honorary Secretary for both the Pancreas Society of Great Britain and Ireland and the Pancreatic Section of the British Society of Gastroenterology. He is also the North-East representative for the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgery.
