A total hip replacement which is classed as a major operation can cause great anxiety to many patients including myself.Thats why i researched to find a surgeon with all the right attributes to undertake this work. One name stood out that convinced me to make an initial appointment with Mr Gambiar at Writington hospital. From the first moment we met i felt totally at ease with his approach and diagnosis. Great care was give to explain the best way forward and all possible outcomes including any negative impact and risks the operation may hold It was agreed with the anethetist that a block was the safest way to proceed. All this gave me reassurance and confidence moving forward. The operation went without a hitch with we up and taking my first tentative steps within twenty four hours The district nurse stated it was the cleanest wound she had seen for a long time. An orthopedic surgeon friend in California also confirms my findingsTo date I would and indeed and still make excellent progress which will greatly enhance my life. For this i will always be grateful to Mr Anil gambhir

We were impressed with Mr Gambhir from the outset my wife thought she had problems with her knee replacement he immediately saw it was her hip as X-ray confirmed I’ve just had knee replacement in Wrightington just over 5 weeks ago,I was very impressed with the courtesy, professional kind approach of Mr Gambhir and his team,I’m very confident that my surgery has been successful and I’m looking forward to golf in the near future I would recommend don’t keep putting it off go see Mr Gambhir and get your hip or knee sorted ASAP I’m so glad we did

I went to see Mr Gambhir following problems after a fall led to a full hip replacement ( the surgery was not undertaken by Mr Gambhir ) I was worried when I arrived for my appointment and felt quite vulnerable but found him to be very kind, , understanding and reassuring. He explained my Xrays clearly and ensured he answered all my questions thoroughly . I left feeling confident and clear about the way forward. Should further surgery be needed I would have no concern about Mr Gambhir operating as he was extremely knowledgeable and his calm and reassuring demeanour would give me the confidence required to go ahead . A very pleasant consultant who I’m extremely pleased I chose to see

Mr Gambhir was recommended by my private insurance company. I found to be professional, personable with the reassurence of a Consultant at the top of his game. Mr Gambhir explained everything to me about my operation in very easy terms. He always made me feel as if I was his only patient. Not only that, his secretary, Angela was a real support when I needed an answer to a question. Highly recommended, would use again, but hopefully not for at least 15 years!

Had an anterior hip performed by Mr. Gambhir. Operation went very well and aftercare was all I could expect. Healing was very quick. Pain from the arthritis was gone immediately. Initially there was some discomfort from the operation but not enough to make me use painkillers. Walking was a problem at first. I could only walk a few hundred yards after the first fortnight. 2 months into my recovery I am walking 3 miles a day but I see this only as a start. Flexibility is improving but slowly. I am happy with the lack of pain now.

Dear Mr Gambhir, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the speedy way in which you dealt with my need for an urgent right hip replacement recently, you will recall the significant pain I was in and the difficulties I encountered in obtaining the necessary surgery to deal with my situation. I consider myself extremely fortunate to obtain an appointment with yourself and to experience your excellent, comforting manner and above all the assurance that you would rectify the problem with my right hip. The operation was a success and I am free of pain, I felt that I should express my heartfelt thanks to you for all you did. With best wishes.

Dear Mr Gambhir, Where does one begin? 10 weeks ago I was a pain filled, semi cripple on the verge of immobility, but now I am completely pain free and one hundred percent mobile , enjoying all the activites that I have previously pastook in. Absolutely unbelievable. It is totally, totally inadequate Mr Gamnhir to simply say thank you, for it is your skill and dedication that has, without any exaggeration, transformed my life. For this I owe you a debt. I will close now, and one more say thank you , but please believe me when I say that it is a very heartfelt thank you. Brilliant.

Mr Gambhir has treated me with exceptional care and professionalism. I chose to have anterior approach surgery for my hip replacement as I work for myself and would find it difficult to have a long time off work . We discussed the procedure and five days later I was in for surgery . Everyone at wrightington were so helpful and reassuring, even the food is good . I'm eleven days post op ,off crutches in three days and only using one crutch outside now not two. I am not a private patient but felt every bit like one , many thanks to everyone at wrightington .

It is now 7 months since my knee replacement operation, and I wanted to thank you so much for the brilliant job you did. I am now back doing all the things which kept me fit and put a smile on my face, and which I could not do with my arthritic knee: walking, dancing, yoga and going to the gym. You have given me back my physical fitness and my mental wellbeing. Before my operation I had also been having some back problems, largely because of the way I was talking, and these have practically cleared up too. Thank you

I was well aware I needed a hip replacement through a severe lack of mobility and constant pain. I couldn’t tie my laces, my wife and children and friends had to put my socks on for me and my sporting days were virtually over. Through a number of sources I was made aware of Mr Gambhir at wrightington hospital so I requested a consultation through my GP. A calm assuring warm professional personality, with clear knowledge and experience of what was best for me. At 47 years old , I felt I was too young for a total hip replacement and Mr Gambhir sensed my trepidation. We met on a number of occasions discussing various options, and eliminating those options that were technically inappropriate, had greater risk of failure or were prone to infection. Eventually I relented to the pain, the proposal for durability and longevity, was a titanium stem coated in ceramic so it would allow bone to grow into it to bond it, with a ceramic faced titanium femoral head , and ceramic lined acetabular. The head size was chosen to give me a good range of movement so I could potentially continue with martial arts training. As an airline pilot, I was concerned about recovery period, and if I’d ever get my medical back to continue flying. The operation was two hours long under a local spinal anaesthetic, and Mr Gambhir gave me a commentary during the operation. At 5.0 pm Saturday afternoon I was sat up eating in my hospital bed, just one hour after the operation was completed. I was walking weight on with crutches within days, I returned to flying within months, I now walk miles 5 miles a day, but comfortably more when I want, I have successfully completed two Dan gradings in karate, I am currently a third Dan black belt , this year I competed in the WUKF world karate

I have always been very fit and actively involved in a wide variety of sports, during my working life I was a P.E. teacher. I played rugby and cricket for local teams as well as badminton, squash and golf as leisure activities; I have skied regularly and have been a fell walker as I live in Cumbria. I am also a cyclist, averaging about 100 miles a week on my bike and completing challenges such as Coast to Coast rides and Lands End to John O’Groats. About eight years ago I started to experience pain in my hips after exercise, particularly activities with a high impact such as tennis, badminton and fell walking. As the pain levels increased I had to cut out many of the activities I enjoyed and had to take more and more pain killers. I saw my G.P. who arranged for X-rays, which revealed that I had no cartilage left in my hip joints with the only solution being total hip replacement. I did some research and asked to be referred to Wrightington Hospital with a view to having my hips replaced by the Anterior approach as this would mean less disruption to the muscles during surgery. I saw Mr Anil Gambhir and was immediately impressed by his caring, professional manner and his willingness to explain, in layman’s terms, the advantages and disadvantages of each procedure. My right hip was replaced in February 2015, followed by my left hip in October 2015; I followed the rehabilitation procedure to the letter and, once the post-operative pain had subsided, was delighted to be pain free for the first time in five years. Since the surgery I have resumed many of the activities which I had been forced to give up. I fell walk regularly and play golf four times a week as well as playing tennis and table tennis. I have also skied in the French Alps and completed three long distance cycle tours from Caen to Nice, Mizen Head to Malin Head in Ireland and the Rhine Cycleway from Andermatt in Switzerland to the North Sea. My new hips are so good I’ve forgotten that I’ve had replacement surgery and I have no hesitation in recommending Mr Anil Gambhir and his team at Wrightington Hospital.

I know I’m due to see Richard for an annual review in July but did not want to wait to say a huge, huge Thank you.
