Mr Anthony (Tony) De Souza has been a consultant cardiac surgeon at Royal Brompton Hospital since 1998, where he treats both private and NHS patients.
He graduated from the University of Nottingham and completed his cardiothoracic training in Leicester, Southampton and London. He was awarded the McCormack medal from the Royal College of Surgeons of England for achieving the best postgraduate result.
He is now lead of surgery and chair of revascularisation at Royal Brompton Hospital.
Mr Anthony De Souza practices in all aspects of cardiac surgery.
Mr De Souza's major interest lies in innovative techniques for minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In 2000, he successfully performed the UK's first robotic endoscopic CABG. He now has the UK's largest practice of endoacab (endoscopic atraumatic coronary artery bypass) and hybrid revascularisation with a mini-incision for CABG.
He also specialises in valve repair or replacement, in particular mitral valve surgery, and performs thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery for atrial fibrillation.
Mr De Souza has served on the advisory panel for interventional procedures for the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Furthermore he has served as director of the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (ISMICS).
