Mr Ashok Kumar is a Consultant of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at the Whittington NHS Hospital in North London. He is also an honorary Consultant at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, St. Mary’s Hospital, where he runs a maternal medicine clinic once a week. He practices privately at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.
With over twenty years of clinical practice in the field, Mr Kumar uses his experience to teach and examine Imperial College medical students in Obstetrics and Gynaecology as well as training hospital midwives. Mr Kumar has written several NHS hospital guidelines for Junior Doctors on the treatment of pregnancies complicated by diabetes, asthma and hypertension and he’s researched the effect of maternal sickle cell disease on pregnancy in the UK.
Mr Kumar is also a scientific reviewer of articles for the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology (BJOG), a leading publication in the field.
Mr Kumar is married with one son. He is very much an outdoors person with a love for animals and keeps pet chickens in his garden, sharing the free-range eggs with his colleagues and neighbours. He is also a keen gardener and has been known to surprise with expert dry flower arrangements.
Mr Kumar is a member Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the Medical Defence Union, the Association of Hospital Specialists, the British Society for Colposcopy and Cervical Pathology & the British Maternal and Fetal Medicine Society as well as being an expert reviewer for the International Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
