Finding I had a rapidly growing cancerous tumour came as a shock. The word cancer fills one with dread, however from my first referral to Mr Arora and his colleagues, I was confident that my condition could be managed. I felt throghout that his excellent communication and sympathetic, yet frank discussions, that he was going to achieve the best outcome for me with the least amount of damage. All members of the team involved with surgery, recovery, radio-therapy and rehabilitation were seemlessly co-ordinated, and worked tirelessly to achieve the best outcome for me. Even after some 18 months of follwups Mr Arora treats me as his most important patient!

My experience with Dr Arora started in October 2018 when I was diagnosed with a cancer. It’s never a good news...Dr. Arora had organised various scans and tests so he can further assess my case. A week later I had a biopsy and the tumour was removed. Since then I have been under a care of Dr. Arora, had various follow up appointments and so far everything has been ok and the cancer hasn’t come back. The whole process under the supervision of Dr. Arora went really smoothly, didn’t have to wait too long for anything, most tests and scans were done on the day as well as pre op assessment. I would highly recommend Dr. Arora and his clinic.

I was diagnosed with Oropharynx cancer in January 2019 Mr Arora saw me within 2 weeks of my diagnosis and spent a long time discussing all the pros and cons of Pathos Robotic surgery. I had made my decision then, but he told me to spend some time thinking about everything. All went to plan but unfortunately as Mr Arora reached for the final bit of my cancer he damaged my palette. Let me stress that this is very unusual and the first time this had occurred ( lucky me). This had a dreadful impact on my speech, drinking and eating. Despite all this my palette has now been repaired and in the fullness of time I can now do all of the above and improving all the time. Most importantly I was told that all the cancer has been removed. I didn’t have to have Cimo and radiotherapy wasn’t essential. I did however have 5 weeks of radiotherapy just for my own mind. I’ve been through a rough time over the last 6 months. The damage to my palette was very very unlucky and a very unusual occurrence Despite all this I would still those the Pathos route. I know the cancer has gone. I am not on my medication. You have to think positive and be strong yourself. Thank you Mr Arora, you have been a life saver !!!!!!!!

I was referred to Guys Hospital ENT team from Lewisham Hospital in May 2019. I had a swollen lymph node on the right hand side of my neck and abnormal T cell readings after experiencing an ear ache for several months that wouldn’t go away with antibiotic treatment. Mr Arora referred me for a further biopsy of the lymph gland and gave me and my husband the shocking news that I had HPV positive throat cancer. I recall, that in that sort of twilight zone you go into when given such shattering news , his calm manner and detailed explanations of the process, various treatment options and outcomes for this type of cancer, gave me a positive reassurance straight away that I would beat this with his help. His commitment, at that time, to helping me get better gained my immediate trust and both me and my husband carried this hope with us through this anxious and stressful time. My first robotic surgery on 4th June 2019 had major positive outcomes as the tumour was detected on remnant tonsil tissue and it was removed immediately and a 3mm margin taken all around. The effect of this was similar to a tonsillectomy, the pain of which was managed with morphine and mouth washes. There was an amazing network of support here, the nurses on the wards and visits from Mr Arora and his team, including the dieticians, speech therapists and physio. The comfort of seeing Mr Arora and having his support and empathy at his visits, I believe is part of the healing process. I cannot underestimate how special you feel your recovery is to him and this drives you to get well. An elective neck dissection, Post-operative adjuvant treatment for HPV-positive tumours (PATHOS) was offered to me because the cancerous lymph node on my neck could be removed and be within defined medical parameters of not requiring extensive radiotherapy/chemotherapy. The positive outcome of this operation meant only one further robotic surgery to remove a margin around the tumour area. Our questions, concerns and final outcomes were analysed at depth with Mr Arora. No question was unanswered, we were given truths, realities and the positive and negative outcomes of any decision we made. Throughout, I trusted Mr Arora's views, experience and expertise in this field and we agreed to undergo the surgery. The downside would be neck dissection and radiotherapy/chemotherapy. I was always confident we were making the right decision based on the information we had been given. What an amazing outcome. The Lymph was within the size parameters and it had not spread further! The last robotic surgery was to remove the final margin around the tongue and throat of an additional 2mm and all the above happened within 7 weeks of start date. All of this surgery did take a toll on my weight and I lost a stone and of course there are challenges of eating, drinking and pain. However, in the context of being cancer free and not having to undergo further radiotherapy treatment, it is bearable. My recovery is testament to exemplary team work of the nurses, dieticians, speech therapists under the leadership of Mr Arora. I am 3 months down the line, I am eating a normal diet again, starting to exercise slowly and driving my car. I am forever grateful to Mr Arora for his integrity, caring and passion for his robotic surgery and his pioneering of this amazing treatment. So many people will benefit from this amazing technology and the skill of its masters.

Mr Asit Arora

Thank you for this thoughtful heartfelt feedback. I’m sure this will be a source of inspiration to other patients. By using the minimally invasive Transoral Robotic surgery technique we have been able to remove the cancer completely and avoided the need for any radiotherapy or chemotherapy- a marvellous result. So happy for you !

I would like to give my sincere thanks to Dr Asit Arora. I am so lucky to have found a doctor like him, who found the reason why I have been having difficulty breathing for the last 17 years! I was diagnosed with Inspiratory stridor secondary to subglottic stenosis and Dr Arora has reassured me that he can help me and "repair" my breathing problem by performing flexible bronchoscopy as my airway has been blocked by 60%. Since my operation (2 weeks ago) I have noticed a big diffrence in my physical activity levels which has increased, I am able to walk up the stairs, go for a short walks without getting out of breath as much as before the operation. Although the operation was not fully completed due to the balloon not being able to be fitted at the time of my operation. I am very excited to "feel" final results when my 2nd operation to fit balloon in my airways will take place! Amazing doctor, extremely knowledgeable, feel safe in his hands!

Mr Asit Arora

Thank you - the subglottic stenosis has been successfully dilated and a future balloon dilatation using the latest technology of catheters and flexible endoscopy will, I’m sure, further improve your airway and breathing. Well done!

After surgery at the end of2017 to remove a growth from my larynx I was diagnosed with cancer and referred by my surgeon Mr Mark Terry to Guys for radiotherapy. Once in the system things happened fast and I underwent four weeks of daily doses of radiotherapy. The treatment itself was not too traumatic after getting used to being screwed down to a table by a complete head and upper chest mask. The after effects were quite debilitating. However, everyone at Guys was most considerate and reassuring. This goes from the receptionist, radiographers to the doctors. The set up in the treatment area is as comfortable and relaxing as possible: above ground and able to look out of windows, comfortable seating around coffee tables and hot and cold drinks available on a help yourself basis. The nursing support during and after treatment was fantastic. All the specialist nurses were always smiling and encouraging and gave out their contact cards and instructions to call if I had any concerns between appointments. When I had an X-ray swallow test my wife was invited into the room to watch and listen behind the safety screen along with the medics. I would specially mention Claire Davies and Jane Dunton. There was plenty of follow up after treatment from dieticians and lymphedema?nurses. These appointments were conducted at my local hospice in Orpington with the nurses coming to me. I am still being monitored on a regular basis (with gradually widening gaps) by both Oncology and ENT departments. Dr Mary Lei and her team in Oncology have been so supportive and encouraging . Mr Arora and Dr Ana Bernic have been very supportive and helpful during consultations. Both made time to talk, not just about my specific treatment but also about my general wellbeing. Mr Arora even displayed some closet knowledge of Spurs. As I continue on the path to a full and active life putting the worst bits of the last two years behind me I can only look back with gratitude and fondness to all the staff at Guys for their skill, support and kindness

My journey began in May 2018 - After seeing and meeting several Doctors at Guys I was referred to the Dr.Asit Arora. This extremely patient, kind and courteous gentleman made me feel at ease immediately. Mr Arora explained everything to me each step of the way, informing me of what would happen and what could happen during and after surgery. Mr Arora has a gift of making you feel totally relaxed and comfortable, he always asked if I had any questions or concerns and has a 'knack' of making you feel you are the only person he is about to operate on. After my surgery Mr Arora came to my ward to enquire how I was feeling and once again explained what would happen next - the care I have received from this fantastic surgeon and obviously his team is truly second to none. I could not have received or even hoped to have received any better care than I have from this wonderful and very special man - I have no visible scarring which is an obvious testament to Mr Arora's skills and to which I will be forever grateful

Mr Arora took on my case at 24 hour's notice and arranged the most rapid sequence of tests and reviews possible. After detailed explanations of the options I signed a consent form and he was able to schedule surgery within 2 weeks (at a weekend). The operation went well and he saw me afterwards and reviewed its findings and results. My recovery from the the operation experience was very rapid, but the recovery of my vocal cord, and hence my speech, will inevitably take much longer. However Mr Arora has facilitated the provision of Speech and Language Therapy and this is going well. He is also providing ongoing monitoring to ensure there is no recurrence and has been most helpful and supportive with advice, not only to me but also to my wife. While there is no good way to experience cancer, my treatment under Mr Arora has been as good as it is possible to have, both in physical treatment and in psychological support.

At a time of great uncertainty for myself and my family, Mr Arora went out of his way to reassure us all. He also went further when carrying out the neck dissection by finding the primary whilst carrying out a secondary biopsy which he hadn't needed to do. The first biopsy at another hospital had proved inconclusive as to where the primary was. This shows even greater care and consideration. He also made sure I was comfortable whilst recovering on the ward which meant that his work doesn't just stop in theatre. I continue to have great aftercare and me and my family will always be grateful for the way we were all treated. Thank you.

We are writing to you to express our thanks and appreciation for the treatment our daughter has received from both Guy’s and St. Thomas’s Hospitals over the last few months. To give you some background, our daughter presented to A&E at St. Thomas’s at the beginning of August with a swelling in her neck. She was seen promptly and after some investigations was put on a 2 week cancer referral with a query lymphoma diagnosis. As you can appreciate this was a very worrying time for her and us. She received an appointment to attend the ENT clinic at Guy’s the following week and we feel extremely lucky that she was seen by Mr. Arora. He explained the possible differential diagnoses clearly and the investigations that would need to be undertaken. At the time our daughter was still living in London and I had travelled down to London to accompany her to this appointment. Mr. Arora was very proactive in getting a needle biopsy carried out on the same day and tried to also arrange an MRI scan but unfortunately this could not be done until the following Monday. However, the fact that the consultant radiographer was able to aspirate 20ml of fluid from the swelling, and the ultra sound scan suggested the presence of fluid led Mr. Arora to believe that this was most likely to be a branchial cyst. Fortunately the results confirmed there was no malignancy and that it was a branchial cyst which needed to be removed. Again, conscious of where we lived Mr. Arora managed to arrange the pre-op assessment on the same day and booked our daughter in for an operation on 18th September. We were conscious that he made an extra effort to avoid our daughter having to attend on a separate occasion and travel down from Cumbria for the pre-op assessment. At this time she had moved back home to Cumbria and therefore we needed to arrange accommodation for the operation recovery period which Mr Arora advised we needed in order to be near the hospital for up to a week following the operation in case of any complications which may arise. He facilitated the provision of accommodation for her and us (her parents) in The Counting House Lodge and we cannot thank him and the Trust enough for this. It meant we could afford to be with her while she recovered and it also meant that she was able to be discharged from the ward earlier than would otherwise have been possible – freeing up the bed for another patient. The NHS comes in for a lot of criticism at the moment but we cannot fault the treatment our daughter has received and wish to thank the A&E department at St. Thomas’s, Mr. Aurora and team at Guy’s, the anaesthetists and recovery room staff as well as the staff on Blundell Ward and the Management Team who approved our accommodation at The Counting House Lodge, this is a fabulous facility. With our appreciation and thanks

Mr Asit Arora

Nowadays people mostly go on-line to raise complaints about negative experiences, so I thought I would share some positive comments on the great experience I had with the ENT department at Guy's Hospital, during a very tough period of my life. I visited the ENT department in October 2017, as a lump suddenly appeared on my neck. Throughout the process the entire team has been amazing, including the receptionists and the nurses and of course, most and foremost, Mr Arorsa, who managed to be at the same time very professional, by explaining very clearly and in a detailed manner what the issue could be, looking at the possible scenarios, and very human, as I found myself being quite emotional during some of the visits. The lump ended being an inflamed branchial cyst with no evidence of malignancy, so in the end I was quite lucky. The surgery itself had some risks, as many nerves run through that area of the neck, but the surgery was quite successful as there were no damages to my nerves, and I am now almost back to being fully fit, also thanks to the physiotherapy offered at Guy's hospital. I'd like to highlight how throughout the process I was very well looked after, and I always felt like I was in the hands of a great professional, working with a great team of doctors. All in all, I would like to thank him and the entire staff of the ENT department at Guy's hospital. Thanks and regards.

I am writing to say how pleased I was with the treatment I received when I had surgery. The previous week I had attended the ENT clinic and met with Mr Arora and his registrar Anna, they were extremely warm and friendly and took their time to explain everything clearly to me. I honestly felt that they cared. Following the surgery, I went to the recovery ward and was very well looked after by a nurse and trainee nurse, they sat with me, spoke to me and were so kind, nothing was too much trouble and I truly appreciated their efforts to make me comfortable. Ongoing to Blundell Ward, I was greeted with a smiling face and a warm welcome, all the staff did their utmost best and pain relief was there, when needed. I was never made to feel like a burden, either to Mr Arora's team or the nursing staff, so full marks for the whole team and their cheerful, positive attitude! Thank you so much
