About
Mr Azi Samsudin is a urologist based in Cheshire and Merseyside. He was appointed as a Consultant Urological Surgeon in Whiston and St Helens Hospital in 2008. He graduated from Cardiff Medical School in 1996 and then completed higher specialist training in Urology in the Mersey region. Mr Samsudin also served as a Medical Officer in the British Army Reserve for 9 years and gained valuable battlefield experience when he was mobilised overseas in 2003. During this time, he even managed to perform an open prostatectomy in the middle of the desert!
Mr Samsudin sub-specialises in Endourology, and is experienced in both general and specialist urological therapy. His main interests are in the management of complex stone disease and bladder outlet obstruction. He is particularly interested in minimal access therapy for urological problems, eg. Urolift, ureteroscopic and percutaneous therapy for stone disease and upper tract cancer. Mr Samsudin is very active in medical education and is involved in teaching both medical/nursing students as well as qualified doctors. He is regularly invited to teach as a faculty member on national training courses in urology and has organised various Endourology courses in Merseyside.
In his spare time, he is mostly kept busy with entertaining his two young sons and dogs!

Felt very comfortable, everything went smoothly

I have just had a vasectomy with Mr Samsudin and the process was completely painless. Mr Samsudin is conscious to give you anaesthetic before and during the procedure to avoid pain that can sometimes occur at various moments. Any apprehension I had before the procedure was needless and I would consider the process less painful than a routine visit to the dentist.

We were referred to Mr Azi for a second opinion and felt he thoroughly explained the issues and procedure in more detail and answered all our questions. He didn’t rush us and was patient with all the questions we asked.

Mostly fine but he forgot I was self funding and did not quite explain the charges.
I'm sorry that you had an extra charge for the cystoscopy and stent removal. I did offer to take you to my NHS practice in Whiston for it once it was pointed out but you declined. I have now taken measures to avoid this happening again in future with self-pay patients. Overall, I'm glad that I was able to help you with your urological problem. All the best.

I felt 100% confident in his diagnosis etc. and reassured by his professional but friendly manner. The recommended TURP procedure went smoothly, and I recovered quickly. I was delighted with the outcome, and grateful to him for being so thorough. The 5-month follow-up consultation confirmed the success of the procedure, and I was discharged. Overall a pisitive experience, and excellent result.
