Mr Balakrishnana Mahesh is a Consultant Cardiac and Transplant Surgeon based at Harefield Hospital.
Mr Mahesh graduated from the prestigious All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, India in 1994 and he carried out a research project looking into vascular malformation treatment. Following this, he completed his initial surgical training there. Mr Mahesh went on to achieve a Doctor of Philosophy from Imperial College for his research into the role of antibodies in mediating acute and chronic rejection in heart transplant patients. He completed his specialist at Royal Papworth Hospital and Harefield Hospital. He has previously been based at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Centre in the USA, where he specialised in heart and lung transplantation and implantation of ventricular assist devices. Prior to his current post, Mr Mahesh was appointed as a Consultant in cardiac surgery and transplantation at the Golden Jubilee Hospital, Glasgow.
Mr Mahesh offers a wide variety of adult heart procedures. His expertise lies in all major heart surgery, transplantation and implantation of ventricular assist devices.
Outside his clinical practice, Mr Mahesh has published in a number of peer-reviewed journals, he is a mentor to other doctors, he is an honorary senior lecturer at Imperial College, London and a clinical tutor for the Royal College of Surgeons.
