Dr Christian Barnick, FRCOG, is an Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, based in central London, with over 30 years of experience.
As well as caring for pregnant women he also specialises in complex laparoscopic surgery including fibroids, endometriosis and urogynaecology.
He qualified at Guy’s Hospital in 1984 and has trained and worked ever since in London teaching hospitals
He practices privately at OBGYN Matters London (co-founder and director) and continues to work part-time as a consultant in the NHS at the Homerton University Hospital.
Christian has had the opportunity to work in many specialist clinics dealing with all aspects of Gynaecology. As a result, he has an in depth knowledge of many areas including, endometriosis, fibroids, pelvic floor problems (prolapse and incontinence) as well as menopause, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) and period problems.
Christian is widely recognised nationally and internationally as an excellent gynaecological surgeon. He performs a wide range of gynaecological operations using Minimal Access Techniques.
The more complex laparoscopic (keyhole) surgical procedures he performs are removal of fibroids, excision surgery for advanced Stage IV endometriosis, deep infiltrating endometriosis (DIE) and recto-vaginal endometriosis.
The great advantages of ‘key-hole’ surgery are less pain, a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery, minimal scars and better long-term outcomes. This combination is particularly important to young women who are keen to get on with their lives, maintain their fertility and resume normal activity.
In order to maintain standards, he performs over 200 major and 300 minor operations a year. He also teaches surgical skills both in the UK and abroad and lectures at national and international meetings.
He manages and runs a specialised Endometriosis Centre accredited by the British Society of Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE).
Christian’s experience in Obstetrics spans over 30 years. His care is patient centred and is individualised to each pregnant woman.
Individual women and their partners often have views on how they wish to be managed antenatally and he encourages them to make safe birth choices. These choices are respected in order to give women the birth experience they desire. He is happy to support all birth choices ranging from low intervention to elective Caesarean section.
In Private Practice the vast majority of women have low risk pregnancies and his focus is on risk reduction, early recognition of problems and prevention of possible complications. Nonetheless, emergencies can occur, and his patients may feel reassured that with over 30 years of experience he will be able to deal with any of these should they arise.
He sees it as a real privilege to look after pregnant women and to ensure that they feel confident, safe and informed throughout their pregnancy.

My experience with Mr Barnick has been very positive. He has been very helpful and has explained things clearly. The hysteroscopy and iron infusion also seem to have gone very smoothly.

I was referred for a D&C procedure after a missed miscarriage, I cannot thank Doctor Barnick enough for everything he’s done for me. Dr. Barnick and his team made this experience as comfortable as it could be considering the nature of it. The procedure went well and I recovered well and quickly.

I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation to Mr Barnick and his PA Zoe. They've been absolute angels throughout my entire pregnancy Since appointment number one until C section, I felt completely safe in Mr Barnick's hands. He constantly reassured me, explained things in a clear and effective way and made me feel supported from an emotional point of view, too. Zoe is the most caring doctor's PA I have ever interacted with - responsive, kind and always able to say the right thing at the right time. Exceptional for real.

Such a kind and compassionate Dr, who really takes the time to focus on you as an individual. He also has a great sense of humour and is very 'human' which helps when you're dealing with circumstances which could leave you quite anxious. Really pleased to have found such a great surgeon and would thoroughly recommend him to anyone

Dr Barnick is an excellent OBGYN - he performed a D&C for me after I suffered a miscarriage and he also delivered my twins via c section. In each case the procedure went very smoothly and I had a very quick recovery with little bleeding or pain. Throughout my prenatal appointments, he always took the time to discuss all my questions and concerns with me and is very empathetic. I would highly recommend him.

Absolutely brilliant experience from start to finish! My biggest regret is not having met Mr Barnick for him deliver our first child - our second child got lucky! He explained everything so clearly and was incredibly reassuring throughout. I cannot recommend him highly enough. I enjoyed the entire experience - even the delivery!

I really appreciate Mr Barnick's care and support during what was an incredibly difficult time for me – I really had lost all hope I’d ever be able to have another baby. Mr Barnick's expert skill and knowledge, alongside his caring and very positive attitude, was exactly what I needed at a time when I had hit rock bottom both mentally and emotionally and the struggle to get pregnant was taking its toll on all aspects of my life. Following my initial consultation, I felt completely safe in his hands. It was also a huge relief to be able to undergo the surgery so quickly which was really important as, by that point, I had been trying to conceive for quite some time and every week seemed an unbearable challenge on this journey. Following Mr Barnick's advice, I underwent surgery for two operations and was absolutely overjoyed when I fell pregnant just seven weeks later.

I recently had a laparoscopic myomectomy with Mr Barnick. He was fantastic. I would definitely recommend him. Zoe was also brilliant in replying to my emails so quickly when I had any concerns. Thank you both
