I am insatiably curious and research everything online--from my choices of surgeon to sturgeon (in both you want to find the "no-kill" variety!).
So it is perhaps an unusual blip that this is the first online review I have ever written. Why? Perhaps because I have never felt so overwhelmingly compelled to write a review as I am by the wonderfully positive experience of eye surgery under Mr. Danny Mitry, who operates from the Royal Free and St. John's and Elizabeth hospitals in north London.
When diagnosed with cataracts, I had to research them
immediately, only to learn that rather than some growth, cataracts are actually the natural lens in each of your eyes turning opaque with age and/or the sun. (One of the few benefits of living under the minimalist sun in the UK is that people who live in sunnier climates develop cataracts a decade or more earlier than we do.) More daunting is the actual process of the surgery, which is first the surgical removal of your eye's lens, and then the insertion of a new, plastic lens. Both lenses do not float on the surface, but reside underneath your cornea, at the back of your eye. So it is with some trepidation that I finally started to research a good eye surgeon.
You have to wait to surgically remove the cataract until it becomes "ripe", which is the too-juicy technical description of it. This gave me the perfect opportunity to delay surgery--until my focus on the world became a rather lovely, fuzzy blur-- meaning I could not drive or read very well! My fellow world-class procrastinators, this is essential surgery which you should not put off. Doing that meant when I found out the NHS offered a 21-22 week wait just for a consultation, I had to resort to my private health insurance, thereby losing my no-claims bonus.
While Danny Mitry operates on both the NSH and privately, apparently you can't choose your surgeon if you choose to go
NHS. At my first consultation with him, my undoubted fears were replaced with an inner certainty that I had found the right surgeon for me. My research had shown his impressive qualifications and experience, but does not begin to describe my overwhelmingly positive of being his patient. In the past, I had some highly skilled but narrowly-focused surgeons who are coldly detached, even self-righteous. Not a bit of that attitude with Mr. Mitry. He is a doctor who genuinely cares--and is responsive to--his patients. I was slightly worried that I might be discreetly chastised, or subtly tut-tutted for having delayed this surgery for far longer than I should have done--a surgeon's attitude which serves only to perpetuate a patient's delaying tactics.
There was no hint of that with Dr. Mitry My numerous questions usually annoy consultants, who display their impatience with a patient by looking at their watches--or literally "look down" on you by peering over the top of their glasses.
Moreover, Danny Mitry will be refreshingly honest with you, not "leaving out" what may be the negative aspects of any surgery. He will always talk through the choices with you--of which there are a number to be made. Single-focus or multi-focus lens? Have both eyes done at once, or with several weeks in-between procedures? (the latter a good idea as there is a slight risk of cross-infection). Full improvements in your eyes will be reaped about 5-6 weeks after surgery, as they take time to adjust.
That Danny Mitry is an immensely skilled surgeon can be proven objectively by the measure of how much my eyes have improved: unexpectedly, my eyesight is as good, or better, than it was before cataracts! I spoke with another patient who also praised his "extraordinary skill" in a middle-of-the night emergency surgery on a detached retina.
In a happy summation, I can wholeheartedly recommend Danny Mitry both as an outstanding surgeon and person.
I decided that when I needed cataract surgery I would go privately so that Could receive prescription lenses meaning one operation would last a lifetime.I approached my nearestoptician in Dundee[approx 25 miles away, Iwas seen by a consultant who recommended single lenses. The surgery was to take place in Glasgow, it needed someone to be with me and necessitated a 3 day stay in Glasgow.I dicussed with my daughter [living in London] who suggested that London would be a better solutions I could stay with her.I read all the options before talking to DR Mitry. The telephone consultancy I had with him convinced me ,further to my reseach, would be better having varifocal lenses on both eyes at the same time. When I arrived at the venue in London before surgery al the tests I had had were repeated before surgery.
All staff were pleasant and welcoming. Dr Mitry introduced himself before surgery. After lying down he explained the procedure.I believe I fell asleep and the next thing I was aware of was being asked if I would like a tea or coffee.I was then helped into a comfortable chair in the recovery room.My son in law had gone shopping and was telephoned say I was ready to go home .I was given drops and instructions and was told to return the following day.The following day after undergoing tests it was confirmed my eyesight was so improved I was clear to drive.Having snuggled with contact lenses and poor fitting glasses for the past ten years I was delighted to discover that I could see to read the newspaper.Christmas tree lights were awesome like seed heads of dandelions.
Unfortunately I was unable to return to DR Mitry's clinic because the appointment book was full, therefore I was given an appointment in Harley street London I have my next appointment in Dundee.Having experienced 3 different venues I can only say all were excellent.I had no side effects my eyes did not go red, there was no bruising and no pain at all .I can highly recommend Optical express and all their employees
In October 2018, following a routine eye examination at my local Boots Optician, I was told that I had a cataract. A visit to my GP followed where it was requested that I obtain the referral from the optician for my GP. This took almost three weeks leaving me anxious and frustrated that my sight was becoming worse on a daily basis; which led me to seek private treatment.
At the earliest opportunity I contacted Optical Express which led to a consultation on December 14th 2018. I found the consultation thorough where all my questions were answered. On trying to find a surgery date I was offered a number of appointments for the new year, but given my anxiousness I opted for a vacant appointment for 09:00 December 17th 2018, which required special clearance as it was outside of Optical Express 7 day patient cooling off period. I was advised that the surgeon Dr Danny Mitry will contact me the following day.
Saturday 15th December, Danny contacted me by phone for an initial consultation. I immediately felt at ease having received his call as advised during my consultation.
December 17th surgery date, on the day of the procedure Dr Mitry greeted me and introduced himself. He explained in detail, the course and detail of the replacement lens surgery.
Following the successful 15 minute surgery, I had a reaction to the anesthetic which left me feeling sick and dizzy, the aftercare team where supportive and caring. I was able to leave the surgery two hours later after the team ensured that I was well and able to travel.
The surgery has been successful which has enabled me to resume my life and activities.
I had lens surgery over two weeks ago and very happy with the result. I don't need to wear my glasses anymore.
Mr Danny Mitry done my surgery and I'm very pleased with the results.
The whole process was truly exceptional. Everything was explained to me very clearly, including the risks, I was given time to ask as many questions as were needed in order I felt comfortable with going ahead with the procedure. The experience on the day of the operation was beyond my expectation. I would thoroughly recommend Danny Mitry to any friends or colleagues looking to undertake the same procedure.
Excellent results from my replacement lens surgery. Danny’s manner help alleviate any pre surgery nerves.
I have had lens replacement surgery and it’s the best thing I’ve done. I now have 20/20 vision so don’t need glasses anymore. I was well looked after from stat to finish of the procedure . Everyone was very friendly and
very helpful. My surgeon explained
everything and answered any questions I
had so I felt at ease. The surgery is very straight forward and is done very quickly. I had both eyes done at the same time and I’m glad I made that decision.Within less
than 24 hours your vision is perfect. So far
the after care has been great at my local optical express. I would definitely recommend this procedure .Best thing I’ve done and worth every penny.
I was very nerious about eye surgery but Dr Danny Mistry explained everything to me clearly and reassured me. Due to his support I felt I could go ahead with my surgery.
He had told all risks, benefits and after care they provide. So I went ahead and booked my surgery.
I was very pleased with my surgery as I experienced no pain, my eye sight is good and I no longer need to wear glasses. My eyes are still recovering as they are still red but I have rest assured this will clear with time. I have been given follow up appointments so I feel cared for.
I am very satisfied with my eye surgery and my eye sight now.
Spoke clearly, explained the procedure in a way it was easy to understand
I was referred to Danny Mitri at St John & St Elizabeth with a detached retina. It was a shock to be told I needed immediate surgery that evening but he and his team were brilliant in organising it all quickly and he was especially kind and patient in taking time to answer all my questions. I immediately knew I was in the hands of a highly capable surgeon, who regularly carries out these procedures. I now have the sight restored and the aftercare has again been impressive. I highly recommend him to anyone requiring eye surgery.
The procedure was explained completely and the doctor took the time to answer any questions I had.
The procedure itself was quick, pain free, and the doctor and his team were really professional, friendly and caring.
I have recommended the surgery to friends already.
I recently had Lasik iDesign surgery performed by Danny Mitry, the procedure was very quick and not as uncomfortable as I had anticipated. Danny was very reassuring and informative before the surgery, during and immediately after. My vision was around 80-90% clear immediately after the surgery with slight discomfort and the following morning I woke up with perfect vision. The aftercare instructions from Danny were clear and put me at ease. The experience has been life-changing and one I would highly recommend to anyone and have been doing so ever since.
I met Danny Mitry on two occasions prior to my surgery and he explained everything very clearly with great patience. He emailed me information on the procedure prior to the event. I would highly recommend him.
Very, very happy after iLasik treatment in October. It's an amazing feeling to not have to put contact lenses in again. Wish I'd opted for the treatment 10 years ago.
The surgery itself was totally painless and was over in less than 5 minutes. Danny and the team make the whole process very easy and relaxed. Although there's some soreness in the eyes for a few hours afterwards, my vision was better than 20/20 the next day. It's remarkable.
The whole process from the initial consultation to the follow up appointment was quick and easy and efficient. There's always someone to call if you have any questions.
Danny made me feel extremely comfortable and totally informed about my surgery from initial phone call to actual surgery. I was in and out in less than 2hrs and the surgery was in no way painful. Wish i had done this years ago. Thanks for this Danny!
Danny was very helpful in the run up to surgery and in the phone consultation he really listened to me and what I was hoping to get from the surgery and between us we came up with a different surgical route than had been suggested in the clinical consultation. On the day of surgery he was very kind and explained in absolute detail what would happen so I was very calm when I went in. The actual procedure itself was easy! I was asked to lie down on my back then few drops were put in my eyes. The bed (or the machine?) was then moved a few centimetres and a round thing like a plastic polo was placed on my eyeball. Then I was moved slightly again and asked to look in to a light. They counted to fifteen and that was done. The same happened with another machine then it was all over! (It all happened so quickly that this is my recollection anyway). Immediately I had improved vision. In a separate room, I was given all the information I needed about drops I needed to use. I went home wearing sunglasses and then slept as advised. I have been using my drops as instructed and have not felt any pain or even discomfort. I had a moment when my eyes went slightly double vision and vision express were excellent, immediately getting me in and testing my eyes (all fine, just a little dry so they gave me some gel eye drops). Absolutely delighted with my surgical experience.
Before I met Danny, my experience was less than satisfactory as the previous surgeon I was given decided he would not work on my agreed date and the person explaining it said I would have to go over 100 miles away! However the complaints department dealt with this well and eventually I just had to go to London (40 miles away) which was far but turned out to be a good thing as it meant that Danny was then my surgeon.
Very patient and explained everything clearly.
Danny Mitry recently petformed laser enhancement treatment on my eye. I had new lenses in both my eyes a year ago and my left eye needed a small amount of correction as it was presenting as short sighted so distance was slightly blurry. Danny contacted me by phone for an initial consultation. I immediately felt at ease due to his pleasant and gentle manner.
On the day of the procedure he introduced himself and shook hands with me. He explained in great detail, including drawings, what would happen, the time it would take for each part of the procedure and what exactly he would be doing. I felt totally comfortable as I was fully aware of what to expect. Danny explained each part of the process as it was happening. Following the process my eyesight is now virtually perfect and I could not be happier. I would happily recommend Danny Mitry to anyone who was considering laser eye surgery. I have a new lease of life after having my eyes done.
I cannot believe that a week after my procedure I'am writing this review without glasses. Mr Mitry at the Pre.Op.consultation explained everything in great detail. The type of lense, the pre op procedure, the actual procedure, the risks and the expected outcome. His manner was exceptional and he left me feeling very comfortable about the whole experience. I would recommend Mr Mitry to anyone if they considered lense replacement.
Having been thoroughly assessed at the consultation stage I was advised that my eyes were otherwise healthy and that I would benefit greatly from lens replacement in both eyes.
Dates were fixed and prior to the procedure Mr Danny Mitry talked me through the risks (albeit slim) and the benefits I would experience. Also, he was very keen to establish that I was comfortable with my decision to proceed and the basis of the procedure I had chosen. A similar conversation took place on the
day of the first procedure, to reinforce that I was happy with my decision.
On the day of the first procedure, being a little apprehensive, I was quickly put at ease by the nursing staff and by the anaesthetist who assured me that I would feel nothing. This proved to be the case and when I returned the next day for the second eye, I was more relaxed knowing how easy the first day had been. During the whole process Mr Mitry was keen to know that I was comfortable.
I was back for an appointment on day 3 to check both eyes. There was an immediate and significant improvement in my eyesight. I was much better than the DVLA requirements and on day 3 I was driving again. Quite remarkable. I can only say that the quality throughout the entire process was second to none and that the experience exceeded my expectations. Nothing but praise and I would recommend to anyone. D.E.
Mr Danny Mitry's skill and expertise, together
I was treated by Dr Mitry he explained everything about the procedure and the after care . It was a Seem less process all along . I am 1 week after my surgery and my eyesight is getting better all the time already can read the small print Dr Mitry you and your staff are a credit to your pròfesion . Regards
My appointment with Dr. Mitry was great. He seemed really smart and was easy to communicate with. I can't think of anything that could have improved and am comfortable placing my ocular health in his hands.
Danny was extremely professional and reassuring throughout my eye treatment.
It was a colleague of his who saw me initially, and I met Danny on the morning of the operation. His colleagues spoke very highly of him, which gave me confidence he would carry out the procedure well, which I understand is a more unusual one.
Once the operation was done and I came round from the anaesthetic, Danny came to talk to me about how it had gone, and the early indications were positive. I then had a follow up appointment with him around two and a half weeks later, where he examined my eye and confirmed that the progress was going well. He seemed very knowledgeable, and took the time to answer all my questions.
I would recommend him to anyone considering eye surgery, and reassured me throughout the process and put my mind at rest.
A big thank you to Danny and the team for making my experience and surgery very easy and straight forward! I still can't believe how quick the procedure was and that I now have perfect distance vision! I was a bit nervous and apprehensive about doing this for many years before deciding to go for it but I wish I'd done it sooner.
I was in and out of theatre before I could even think about what was happening! My vision had changed pretty much straight away. It was a bit blurry to begin with but this didn't last long and I had no pain or major discomfort. I only read had a bit of eye strain in the first week post-op.
There really was nothing to worry about from how comfortable they made me feel throughout the whole process to the aftercare I receive. 2 months after and my night vision is much improved from the glare and light halos. I do have to wear reading glasses for very small print and in low light but very rarely. I was warned about this as my reading vision was already starting to change before the op.
I would highly recommend this surgery to anyone who is thinking about the freedom from glasses and contact lenses. It's amazing not to have to worry about it anymore! I wish I hadn't left it 10 years to decide to go for it!
I AM SO HAPPY WITH THE RESULTS FROM THE TREATMENT THAT I’VE RECEIVED FROM DR DANNY MITRY. I HAVE BEEN UNDER HIS CARE FOR THE REMOVAL OF 2 CATARACTS AND FLOATERS, FOR WHICH HE PERFORMED A SEPARATE VITRECTOMY. HE PUT MY MIND AT EASE FROM THE START WITH CLEAR EXPLANATIONS OF WHAT NEEDED TO BE DONE AND THE OPTIONS OF HOW HE COULD DO IT. I’VE BEEN TREATED THROUGHOUT WITH KINDNESS, COMPASSION AND RESPECT BOTH BEFORE, DURING AND AFTER THE OPERATIONS. THE SURGICAL PROCEDURES THEMSELVES, THAT I’D DREADED, WERE QUICK, GENTLE AND PAINLESS. I COULDN’T RECOMMEND HIM MORE HIGHLY AND AM GRATEFUL FOR THE HUGE IMPROVEMENTS HE’S MADE TO MY VISION, IMPROVEMENTS WHICH I NOTICED WITHIN A MATTER OF DAYS.
Danny put me completely at ease. Some of my questions, in hindsight, might've been a bit dramatic and he never made me feel like I asked a stupid question, and was so reassuring and helpful, and approachable. I was so worried about getting the surgery done, but now I've come through the other side, it really wasn't something to have been panicking so much about. It was so quick and painless, and within 24 hours I had better than 20/20 vision. I am so pleased with my results. It's been about 2 months since I had it done and I still wake up everyday thinking "oh i no longer need to put my contact lenses in!!" - and feel pleased every day! I can't wait to go swimming to really test out the results. Definitely the best thing to have happened to me! I can't thank Danny and the team enough! During the procedure they kept me at ease, and before I knew it it was over!
I would definitely recommend the LASIK iDesign laser corrective surgery with Mr Mitry, which I had for both of my eyes. Mr Mitry went through the consent process thoroughly and answered all of my questions. He described the procedure to me beforehand and what I was likely to feel afterwards.
During the procedure itself, I felt a lot of pressure on my eyes when the clamp was placed but Mr Mitry made me feel at ease throughout and explained each step as they were carried out. It was all over within 15 minutes and I would probably describe it as one of the strangest sensations throughout as everything is blurry but you are still able to make out shapes.
After the surgery, you wait in a dark recovery room where they go through the post-op instructions and the eye drop regime. The nurse was kind enough to top up my anaesthetic eye drops so the numbness would last longer. The numbness itself lasts 30-45 mins and once it has worn off, your eyes sting if you try and open them and are constantly streaming. The best thing to try and do is to sleep with the protective goggles they provide as the discomfort wore off after 4-5 hours.
I noticed an immediate improvement in my vision when I was able to keep my eyes open and at the follow up appointment the following day I could already see two rows smaller than 20/20 on the Snellen chart. I was very pleased with the result of the surgery.
I felt slight grittiness in my left eye for the next 5 days but my right eye seemed fine and now a week on from the operation, I am just using the drops for dry eyes when I need to which is normally twice a day.
Recently had Lasik surgery, and Dr Mitry helped make the whole experience an easy one. He explained the procedure well, and was very warm and friendly both when we spoke before and on the day of the surgery. I’m extremely happy with the results post op and would definitely recommend the surgery if you’re on the fence.
I had a retina detachment, which was diagnosed on Sunday 22nd July. Mr Mitry was called at 3pm on the Sunday. He agreed to see me Monday 23rd at 11am and he said he would operate on 2pm that day. He did just that, he was very calming and gave me lots of information. I had the retina attached back on at St Johns & Elizabeth Hospital, which was all arranged by Mr Mitry and his staff. He couldn't of been anymore helpful if he tried. He then ask to see me on the Tuesday just to make sure all was well. Then i was seen again a week later. He gave me his personal mobile number in case I had any complication and told me I could contact him at anytime if there were any problems or concerns I did just that at 7am today 02/08/18 as I banged my head and thought I had damaged the eye again. He agreed to see me straight away and within two hours had checked my eye and diagnosed there were no problems. I feel he has gone beyond what i would of expected and all the time with professional expertise. By the way, the eye is already in great shape, I can see and everyday it is improving. So to sum up, if I or any of my family or friends need eye surgery I will be recommending Danny Mitry, that's for certain

I had iDesign Lasik Eye Surgery performed by Danny Mitry and I have to say the whole procedure was fantastic. Being a 50 year old man and having worn contact lenses for over 30 years I was a little uncertain if I would be a suitable candidate. I spoke at length with Danny both on the telephone and also on the day of my surgery and he really put me at ease. I have Parkinsons and as such i have quite a noticeable tremor which worried me, especially if it might affect the accuracy of the procedure. However, Danny's calm and professional approach really helped and the end result is just AMAZING - I am now 2 grades better than 20/20. Happy days !!
I have recently had laser eye treatment through Optical Express Leeds and Dr Mitry was my surgeon. Prior to my surgery I had a phone consultation with Dr Mitry. He went through the benefits and possible risks in a professional manner. He explained the surgery in more details and helpfully answered any questions I had. Especially regarding the specific laser being used.
On the day of surgery Dr Mitry personally checked the health of my eyes and made sure I was 100 percent happy to go ahead with the surgery. He also answered any last minute questions I had.
During the surgery Dr Mitry talked through the procedure as he worked. His calm manner helped placate my nerves. Following the surgery Dr Mitry checked my eyes and was happy all had gone well.
At my follow up appointment a day later the ophthalmic optician said that I already had 20:20 vision. He pointedly told me that “the surgeon has done a very good job”.
Hi Danny - Apologies for the delay in my response, I wanted to take some time for my eyes to heal properly before giving my verdict, and I must say I’m unbelievably impressed. My vision is actually better than when I used to wear glasses / contacts, and I wake up every morning feeling great! The procedure itself was in my opinion quite painful, however knowing you were by my side the whole time reassuring me every step of the way helped bundles. All in all I’d like to give you a massive thank you for changing my life, and for making the procedure as smooth as possible.
Good luck moving forwards!!
I saw Mr. Mitry for the first time yesterday, and left the appointment feeling very impressed and reassured about my situation. Although clearly an expert Mr Mitry spoke to me in a way that was easy to understand, without hesitation, and gave me his very clear opinion. He also took the time to answer all my questions. I was thoroughly impressed and would have absolutely no hesitation in going to see him again.
through out my expirnce I felt I was well informed about what will be happening. During the surgery I was at first scared and cautious as any one would be getting lazers in there eyes but the doctor talked me through the procedure making me feel safe and at ease. The results have been perfect I could not be happier. It was a quick and painless recovery and was confident that if any problems did arise I would be able to get extra help if needed. I didn’t have any issues and noticed an imidiate improvement. 10/10 would recommend.
Having been diagnosed by my Ophthalmologist with a macular hole in my left eye, I was recommended for surgery to Danny Mitry as one of the most experienced surgeons in the London area. I had found the original news, along with my failing vision, more than extremely worrying and was given an appointment to see Danny almost immediately. From the start, I felt I was in good hands with a clear explanation of what the problem was and how the macular hole was affecting my eyesight. More importantly, the advice about what could be done along with the urgency of the operation was both understandable and clear and enabled me to make a decision as soon as possible. I required vitreo-retinal surgery to repair the hole and Danny explained what this would entail and the chances of a successful result. It was obvious that this surgery needed to be done quickly to give the best possible chance of success.
This surgery was arranged within days of that first appointment which gave me great comfort. I opted to have the operation under a general anaesthetic which I think was the correct decision as seemed to have made it easier all round. The surgery was completed without trouble or complication and this was portrayed both before and after the anaesthetic took hold of my consciousness. The operation involved inserting a gas bubble in my eye to keep the eyeball pressed back to pull the edges of the hole together. For 4 days after the surgery I was advised to “posture” which meant laying face down for most of the waking hours to give the best chance of success. I religiously stuck to this routine however whether this was the reason for the successful result I shall never know. It was both un-comfortable in the heat and extremely boring. It was certainly a weird sensation watching a bubble floating around my eye with some sight gradually returning over the next couple of weeks. The gas bubble took just about three weeks to final disappear which enabled me to fly back from holiday although not fly out.
Two follow up appointments (one week and 2 weeks after the operation) confirmed that the hole has been successfully repaired although I am now awaiting to see how much of my previously excellent vision will be finally returned to me. I understand that this may take a matter of months to return and to allow my brain to adjust as I am still experiencing some distorted vision from the centre of my eye.
I am unable to make a comparison between surgeons as I have only experienced the one round of surgery however I can confirm that Danny Mitry performed both professionally and with great care to this patient. Although I cannot recommend the experience as a happy one, it was almost certainly made better by choosing the right surgeon to undertake it with. I would not wish the condition on anyone nor the journey to put it right.
Danny was warm, professional, informative and courteous at all times during my recent surgery. I had surgery to rectify a detached retina and the results have been wonderful - the dark void has gone and I have full peripheral vision again. There are a couple of pieces of advice that I will give to anyone who has to have a similar operation: 1) Have it done under general anaesthetic if possible. Its quite uncomfortable to have your eyeball cut open while you're fully conscious. 2) Get a medical eye patch that allows you to keep your eye open for use when you're eye is getting better but while the gas (liquid) is still in your eye. Its far easier than squinting to keep it closed.
I have had 2 week post op review and Danny's work was a resounding success. He has kept me informed as to every step that has and will happen. He is even available via text or on the phone after the operation to answer any questions you might have.
A heartfelt "Thank you" to Danny Mitry for restoring the sight to my right eye.
My routine regular eye examination at my local optician revealed a worrying (potential) retinal tear. The optician was sufficiently concerned to suggest I immediately visit A&E. Understandably, this news from the optician caused me enormous concern. Although I didn't feel any symptoms as such, frankly I was terrified about the possible implications. Luckily I was able engage the services of Danny Mitry who could see me the same day. The ease of setting up the appointment without delay was reassuring, but I was still dreading what lay ahead. I think Mr Mitry could sense my anxiety and remained calm and reassuring throughout. His examination was thorough and detailed. He explained in very simple terms what was happening and was careful not to rush things to ensure I was comfortable. His diagnosis was clear and categoric and thankfully all was OK. I am about to depart on vacation and he put my mind at rest whilst scheduling a follow-up appointment on my return - just to ensure all was well. He also gave me his contact details and insisted I call him should I have any further worries or concerns. A first-class service all round.
Danny performed my Lasik laser eye surgery. He rang me a week before the procedure to address any concerns I had. He was honest about the risks, but has a friendly and calm manner which put me at ease. On the day of the surgery he took the time to explain the process thoroughly and I felt confident going into the procedure. During the procedure he worked quickly and calmly. I am really happy with the results and can now see perfectly. I would recommend Danny to anyone considering having laser eye surgery.

He was honest about the risks involved with the procedure, but has a calm and friendly manner that put me at ease. On the day of surgery Danny checked I was happy with what he was going to do, and the reasons why. I felt reassured and clear about what was going to happen during the surgery. He performed the surgery quickly and successfully (I can now see perfectly!) I felt able to raise any concerns with Danny throughout the process and would thoroughly recommend him as a surgeon.
I arrived at the vision express clinic feeling a little apprehensive. I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who explained what forms I needed to fill out and took me for my pre-op tests. I was then taken to my surgeon, Mr Danny Mitry, who explained everything that would happen during the procedure, the risks and the post-op in great detail, all the while answering any the questions I had. Once I was sure it was what I wanted to do, I was taken in to the theatre and was asked to clarify what I was having done and also made sure that I was comfortable. I was in the chair for about 15 minutes all together. Mr Mitry kept me informed as to what was happening while it was happening, and instructed me as to what to do, in a calm collected manner. The operation felt a little uncomfortable, but wouldn't call it painful. Just an unusual pressure on the eye. After both my eyes were done, I had noticeably better vision almost immediately, but felt sore once the numbing drops began to wear off (obviously. I'd had a laser on my eye). I was taken to another room where I was instructed on how to use the prescribed eye drops and given very clear instructions on how to deal with the my eyes for the following month or so, to give me the best chance of avoiding complications. Mr Mitry then made sure I was doing ok before I left the building. I had a sight test the next day, to make sure my eyes were healing and that I had no obvious problems or infections. The pain lasted only a day or so and was fine after a couple of pain killers. It only felt grainy and uncomfortable for the next week or so, and improved day by day. At my next appointment a week later, I was told my eyes were healing nicely and that my vision was almost 20/20 (It is now they've completely healed). The redness around the iris' lasted about a month and now are completely fine.
I would recommend this to anyone who would rather not be restricted by contacts or glasses. I would also recommend Mr Mitry as a surgeon. He was professional throughout, whilst being friendly also.
My surgeon, Mr Danny Mitry, was so reassuring throughout the whole process which put me at ease and made my experience better than I could have expected. I was nervous and Mr Mitry talked through the surgery prior to it and then spoke calmly and confidently throughout the actual laser treatment, which significantly relaxed me. I am extremely pleased with the outcome and the follow up care I received. A wonderful surgeon I would highly recommend and trust.
I met Dr Mitry when I decided to get laser eye surgery. From our initial conversation through to the operation itself I felt extremely well taken care of and reassured. Dr Mitry was very patient, talking through the queries I had in relation to the procedure as well as being very upfront and honest around potential issues that I had not previously considered. As I have been wearing glasses since childhood this was a huge step for me personally and a decision that I did not make lightly. Dr Mitry understood this and was, I felt, very compassionate & understanding of my being nervous.
On the day of the procedure Dr Mitry was very pleasant and extremely personable, taking the time to run through exactly what would happen during the procedure and the different machines involved and how I would be moved between each machine as well as how long each section of the operation would take. During the procedure itself Dr Mitry was very reassuring and calm, updating me on each step of the process and advising me what would happen next. The procedure itself is extremely quick, less than one minute per eye and is no more invasive than a standard eye test. Dr Mitry was very encouraging throughout and with the process being so quick there was no time for nervousness.
It's been four days since the operation and I am absolutely thrilled with how the procedure has worked. The original discomfort passed within a couple of hours, it mainly felt like I had grit in my eyes and they streamed for about an hour, I was very diligent applying the drops and would encourage everyone to do this. With each day that passes my vision is sharpening and is now better than 20/20.
I would recommend laser eye surgery to anyone who wears glasses and having experienced such brilliant care under Dr Mitry I will be forever grateful to him.
After my optician advised me that I need to have cataract surgery as prescription glasses would no longer solve my deteriorating vision, I earnestly started searching for a Ophthalmologist surgeon asking my family members and friends. In this process I consultant two Ophthalmologist surgeon but was not comfortable till I was told about Mr Danny Mitry, Consultant Ophthalmologist by my son who also happens to be a consultant doctor in a different specialty. In my first appointment with him after the necessary tests were carried out he explained to me in detail about my cataract and the options available to me. It was the first time I learnt that I had Astigmatism. He explained to me what it meant and the best lens for this would be Toric lens. His friendly demeanor, and the ease with which he explained and answered my concerns in an extremely professional way was impressive. He made me feel he was in no rush despite other patients waiting to see him. I proceeded to have the surgery. After the surgery was finished he mentioned to me in the operating theater that everything went very smoothly with no complications. This was very comforting to hear. Two days later I noticed that my vision was not great. I went to the hospital and as Mr Danny Mitry was not available I was seen by another Ophthalmologist. I was told that my vision will improve with prescription glasses or may be not certain by dialing of the lens. This was a very bad news for me. I immediately emailed Mr Mitry and as it was late in the evening was not expecting a reply . To my relief I got a reply within 10 minutes mentioning that he was surprised as the operation had gone extremely well. I was told not to worry and he would look into this problem and try to resolve it. A date and time was given to see him. On that day Mr. Mitry himself conducted all my test ( not the staff ) taking the necessary images. I got to know that Toric lens sometimes tend to move from the original position after the surgery this would require an adjustment. I was called to have it done the very next day. A day later after the adjustment I noticed that vision had immensely improved. As advised I went to his clinic two weeks later. After the necessary test I was very pleasantly informed my vision is 20/20. Mr Mitry is a very caring professional having the all the necessary skills and experience for this kind of surgery. I would strongly recommend that a consultation from Mr Danny Mitry would put your mind at peace.
I'm in my late 40s, I had a cataract in my left eye and over the past few years, I noticed my vision getting worse. It's my only eye and so I was quite concerned. From a recommendation, I made an appointment to see Mr Mitry at the Hospital of St John & St Elizabeth.
Mr Mitry discussed with me whether to have cataract surgery now or wait. Whilst he fully explained the risks present in all eye surgery, he also put them in perspective so that I could make a fully informed decision. He answered very clearly the many questions which I had. I didn't feel under any pressure or rush and I felt very reassured. It was clear both from me speaking with him and also from what I had found on this website and others that he is a very well qualified, competent and caring doctor.
I decided to go ahead with the surgery. It would be a day procedure under local anaesthetic (so that I don't feel anything) and light sedation (I would remain awake but be relaxed) lasting for about 20-minutes. I would be able to go home the same day and return to work after about 1-2 weeks.
The operation was exactly as Mr Mitry described. I was super comfortable lying there awake throughout the whole operation but feeling no pain whatsoever and very relaxed. Mr Mitry carefully explained what he was about to do at various points during the operation.
After the operation finished, Mr Mitry told me that it had gone very well. I had already noticed that my sight seemed better than before the operation and after the first 24-hours, I was amazed and very happy with my sight. It was much clearer, colours were more vibrant and the world seemed a new place!
I feel that having Mr Mitry as my eye surgeon made a huge difference to how happy and reassured I felt about having cataract surgery on my only eye. The surgery went very well - there was zero pain and minimal discomfort - and I am extremely happy with my eyesight now. It has literally been life changing!
I went to see Dr. Danny Mitry for a consultation regarding retinal holes. Dr. Mitry examined my eyes thoroughly and thereafter fully explained and helped me understand the nature and cause of my problem. He provided me with his professional opinion which not only eased my concern but also helped me make the right decision regarding my eyesight. He answered all my questions and I would highly recommend him as an ophthalmologist.
Dear Danny Mitry and the team. Just a big thank you for all the care and kindness you gave to me when I had my cataract procedures. It is an amazing procedure and wonderful to be able to see clearly without glasses after 60 years of wearing them! A first class team!!
Danny Mitry was caring, caring and patient. He took his time explaining the procedure to me and answered all of my questions thoroughly. He put me at ease before my surgery and I felt confident having him as my surgeon.
When I was told that I needed cararacts removed by our optician, I was terrified at the thought of having an operation. My first one!
Dr Danny Mitry was recommended to us.
I arrived at the Hospital full of apprehension and very nervous. After our first consultation with Dr Mitry it was like taking a tablet. All my fears and worries seemed to evaporate. Everything had been explained in such an easy to understand way. Every question, every worry were answered in the most professional and reassuring way.
On the day of the operation Dr Mitry came to see me 15 minutes before surgery. Again he was very professional. My husband and I felt completly at ease.
After the operation I was taken to a recovery room. Meanwhile Mr Mitry phoned my
husband personally to inform him that the operation had gone well.
Dr Mitry as a surgeon and his team were very professional and reasuring all the times.
Two days after the operation we went to see Dr Mitry. All my questions were answered and there were many. Again Dr Mitry and his team were wonderful as is my sight.
Next operation is in 5 days, totally relax and happy to be in the hands of Dr Mitry and his team.
Mr Danny Mitry completed my laser eye procedure in London three weeks ago, I was nervous and tense but he explained everything making me feel much more calm, Everything was exactly as it was explained and the next day my far away vision was amazing and i had no prescription anymore.
I would not recommend Danny and the procedure more.
Dany put me at ease as soon as I met him, he explained the procedure fully and reassured me. He made the experience as pleasant as eye surgery could be, couldn’t recommend him and the team enough! Thank you!
I write to commend and thank your medical staff for their care and treatment. In particular I thank Danny Mitry for his undoubted skill in carrying out the operation. A sight problem has always been my worst fear and serious worry, but his reassurances and kindness were so helpful. His manner just gave me confidence when meeting him. I am amazed at how well my eye has responded in the fresh clarity of vision and that there has been no noticeable discomfort. Thank you!
Dear Mr Mitry and staff, A very big thank you to you once again. For all the excellent and swift service I received. You were all very caring and are all a credit to your profession.
Thank you! You did such a good job on my right eye, I will be returning again in the near future, as I do believe my left eye needs doing as well. It is just wonderful to see now. I cannot thank you enough.
I had eye laser with surgeon Danny Mitry and I am very satisfied with my experience with his professional team. Eye laser had no pain, whole surgery take about 20 minutes to complete both eyes. I’m highly recommend anyone who wants to have eye laser go with his team.
