Mr Deya Marzouk completed his undergraduate studies in medicine in Cairo, at the Ain Shams Medical School in 1981. He then undertook his higher surgical training in London, on the North Thames rotation. During his training, Deya also spent time doing research work at the Royal London Hospital into functional colorectal problems. His research centred more specifically on incontinence and obstructed defaecation affecting ileal and colonic reservoirs constructed for ulcerative colitis and cancer. He was awarded a Doctorate degree in Surgery for his work from the University of London.

In 1993, Deya was appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon in Egypt and subsequently became a professor of surgery at Ain Shams University in Cairo. In 1998, he was also appointed as a Consultant General and Colorectal Surgeon n East Kent NHS Trust and was the trust lead colorectal surgeon for six years until 2008. In 2005 his practice expanded to include Kent and Canterbury Hospital as well as the QEQM.

Deya is a member of the Association of Coloproctology and Association of Laparoscopic Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland.
