Mr Dimitrios Tsekes is a consultant Orthopaedic surgeon in London who specialises in shoulder and elbow surgery. He has training and expertise in both trauma and elective surgery in this field.
He graduated from the University of Athens Medical School in 2003. He completed his core surgical training in 2007 he then started his specialist training in Trauma and Orthopaedics at Athens Naval Hospital with a focus on Orthopaedic Sports Injuries.He continued his training in London as a registrar at the Whittington Hospital and Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals, acquiring experience and skills in the whole spectrum of Orthopaedics and obtaining diplomas from the Fellow of European Board of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (FEBOT) and the Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England (FRCS).
Mr Tsekes has completed multiple fellowships including in hand and microsurgery in Athens’ Major Trauma Center (KAT) and two Upper Limb Fellowships; one at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust focusing in shoulder arthroplasty and arthroscopies, and the second at the Royal London Hospital focusing on Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist and Hand complex trauma as well as elective Upper Limb Surgery. This experience has given him the experience and expertise to deal with a full spectrum of shoulder problems both acute and chronic.
In 2016 he was appointed Orthopaedic Consultant and Upper Limb Specialist in Queens University Hospital and then went on to hold a substantive post as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Consultant in Basildon University Hospital, specialising in shoulder and elbow surgery.
Mr Tsekes is passionate about training and teaching and was selected as a candidate for the Trainer of the Year Award for 2018 in RLHOTS rotation. He believes strongly in both providing the very best, validated and up to date care for his patients. This is reflected in his passion for teaching and training the next generation of younger surgeons.
Throughout his Orthopaedic career, Mr Tsekes has completed research, published articles and has delivered numerous presentations at Orthopaedic meetings at the national and international level. He also structures and runs courses on Upper Limb Surgery while being a member of the faculty for Shoulder Surgery Cadaveric labs in Paris.
Mr Tsekes can provide a full comprehensive Shoulder and Elbow service for common conditions, degenerative diseases and sports injuries. He very much believes in a holistic approach to patient care and takes into account the unique needs of every patient, working with a multi-disciplinary team to provide a treatment plan that best serves his patients needs.
Out of medicine he enjoys spending time with his two young children and wife at home and pursuing his passion for sports ranging from sailing to basketball.
