Mr Gabriel Alvarez is a Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon and Skin Cancer expert who practices in the UK.
Mr Alvarez has 30 years experience in Plastic Surgery. He qualified in 1970 at the national autonomous University in Mexico City. He then went on to start his general surgical training at St George's Hospital and the Royal Marsden Hospitals in 1972. In 1974 started his plastic surgery training at the Middlesex Hospital London, the Hospital for Sick Children Great Ormond Street, University College London, and the Plastic Surgery unit at Queen Mary’s Hospital Roehampton.
Mr Alvarez returned to Mexico city in 1974 and attained the Board examination in Plastic Surgery. He worked as a Plastic Surgeon at the Hospital general de Mexico where he developed techniques for facial reconstruction with the sternocleidomastoid muscle and published papers on the subject in the British Journal of Plastic Surgery.
In 1982 Mr Alvarez returned to the UK where he worked for the NHS at University College Hospital and The Royal Free Hospital. In 1995, he worked as a consultant plastic surgeon at Princess Alexandra Hospital in Harlow Essex until 2002.
Mr Alvarez has an active interest in the teaching of surgery and has organised several courses in minor surgery. He has published a CD ROM course on the subject that has now become integral part of the E step Core and E step Foundation courses for the Surgeons in Training Education Programme of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. He has been invited to lecture in the UK, Mexico, France and Italy. His main clinical interests include cosmetic surgery of the breast, abdomen, face and body and surgical treatment of skin cancer.
Throughout his training, Mr Alvarez also worked as a private assistant to many prominent plastic surgeons, gaining extensive experience in cosmetic surgery.
