Mr Gareth Stables, founder of the My Knee Doc clinic, has more than 20 years' experience treating knee problems. Mr Stables decided to specialise solely in knee problems as he believes consultants who focus on just one area are able to deliver the best possible outcomes for their patients.
"I'm your knee doctor, not just your knee surgeon"
Mr Stables can help find the root cause of your knee pain through investigations such as MRI scans and X-rays. He will provide a thorough diagnosis ensuring that his patients fully understand their condition before putting together a treatment plan.
He is able to diagnose Knee arthritis early which can help to avoid major surgery and offer non-surgical treatments that might not be available on the NHS (such as specialist joint injections). He can also treat sports injuries and help you get active again following a cartilage tear or cruciate ligament tear.
Mr Stables believes that knee replacement should be a last resort as, although it is a safe and effective procedure, replacement joints do not last forever. He therefore prefers to look at non-surgical treatments for your knee problem to preserve the natural knee joint and delay or potentially avoid the need for major surgery, particularly in younger patients. If surgery is recommended, he will discuss thoroughly with you to decide if it is the right option for you.
Mr Stables is an advocate of open communication - he is approachable and embraces social media and other communication pathways with his patients.
Mr Stables uses the latest available techniques that work with the body's own tissues to help regenerate joints affected by arthritis. The team of therapists at the clinic work closely together to preserve your knee joint and get you moving and pain-free.
Mr Stables uses healthcare apps and virtual consultations to help keep track of your progress and is always available if you have any questions.

Gave excellent advice never talking down to me. I have had two knee replacements and, while not pleasant, really worthwhile. In each case after three months I was back to normal and walking and playing golf. I would recommend without reservation.

I have found Gareth Stables to be highly skilled and professional both in the consultations I have had with him and in treatment administered by him. He explains the issues you have clearly and fully and outlines your options in the same way. At the same time he does not attempt to direct you down a specific treatment road but explores those options with you. He is very good indeed.

I have known Gareth since he was a trainee and was on the Mersey orthopaedic rotation. I have always found him to be an excellent surgeon. He tailors treatments to the individual patient’s needs be that surgery or non surgical treatment. I would not hesitate to recommend him and would happily have him treat members of my family.
