I have been a patient of Mr Stafford for 5 years. I find him an excellent consultant. He is kind, explains carefully, takes time, provides all options and does not pressure towards surgery unless necessary. I had a very successful full hip replacement recently and having a consultant you trust and you know is top of his game made the whole procedd so much easier. I would fully recommend Mr Stafford.

All went very well. Not so happy with the night nurses at the Wellington and the air conditioning but the food was good! Will definitely go back to Mr Stafford for my second hip replacement and have recommended him to others.

Giles Stafford is an excellent surgeon. From the first consultation right through to the post operative care and checks I have found him to be highly professional, very approachable and incredibly patient. My recovery has been brilliant. He explained my diagnosis clearly and the options which were available to me. Being a first time surgical patient, he was attuned to my nervousness and very kindly made extra time to see me and answer a thousand questions! I was very reassured by this patient-centred approach which prepared me thoroughly. His attention to detail, superb skill and insistence on100% accuracy through the planning OPS process means that my hip replacement has been perfect. He has enormous amounts of energy and is always positive and upbeat. I was very reassured by his continual monitoring of my progress in the weeks and months after my operation. He has an innovative approach to recovery which has meant that my return to “normal” life and activities has been faster than I could ever have imagined possible – 7 weeks post op and I was swimming in the sea off southern Italy! Looking back now (4 months post op) I am amazed at how pain free the process has been – Giles uses very effective focused pain relief - and my lack of bruising was testament to Giles’ skill and talent. I often forget I even have a hip replacement! When Giles is your surgeon, you are also in the care of a fantastic team – a great anaethestist, amazing physiotherapists (I never dreamt that I would be doing glute bridges and on an exercise bike the day after surgery, but I did and it was fantastic) and the wonderful orthopedic nurse Sean who continues the brilliant aftercare by always being on the end of a phone and checking in to see how you are. The facilities in the Wellington Hospital are excellent (accommodation, gym, catering) and I am full of praise for the wonderful nursing care that I received, nothing was ever too much trouble. I can highly recommend Giles Stafford and if I should need to have my other hip replaced, then he is the only surgeon I would want to do it.

From the first time I met Mr Stafford (over 12 months ago), through to the surgery to replace my worn out hip 2 weeks ago, I have found his approach and professionalism to be exemplary. My Stafford allayed any concerns I had from the first appointment. He explained that there is a period of personal evaluation to ensure you are committed to the surgery and made it very clear that he would have attempted all other surgical methods possible to save my hip had it been possible. Armed with that advice, I carried on with life.. I’m an active outdoors person who loves cycling, swimming, hiking and hitting the gym hard 4 times a week. 9 months later after hiking / scrambling in the Lakes, I remembered an analogy Mr Stafford had used, that when you feel the window of what you can do comfortably is closing and your quality of life is affected, you arrive at the fact that it isn’t a decision to me made, rather that it is time to take action. After explaining scans to me in great detail, he explained that a bone conserving implant / replacement, using OPS technology to improve fit would be the best option. He made sure I understood all the risks (however rare) involved and that I was 100% comfortable with every aspect of the procedure, my immediate aftercare and recovery. On the day of surgery Mr Stafford again reviewed the procedure with me, followed by the anaesthetist. This truly couldn’t have been handled better, my heart rate under 60 immediately pre-op proving to me that I was relaxed and confident in Mr Stafford and the entire team at the Wellington. My surgery was fast (under 1 hour) and due to Mr Stafford’s skill and use of local anaesthesia I experienced little to negligible pain. He came to check around 1 hour post-surgery to give me his view on the procedure which in my case was very positive. An hour after that, physio started. Mr Stafford’s approach is to start the rehabilitation process as soon as possible. The morning after surgery I was walking with crutches and using a stationary bike. I was discharged 2 days post-surgery but not before Mr Stafford had again explained the results of the post-operative X rays, which again were very positive in my case. 11 days post discharge; I now look back on the process and understand I could not have been treated better. Mr Stafford runs a tight ship, he leads a team of dedicated experts that all share the same patient focussed mentality and provide support every minute you are under their care. In summary, if you have a problem with your hip and are contemplating “going to see someone”, I could not recommend Mr Giles Stafford more highly.

Throughout my procedure Mr Stafford remained thorough and professional. He answered all questions carefully, courteously and honestly which helped me feel confident that I was in 'good hands'. After my hip replacement Mr Stafford's positive approach empowered me to return to normal life quickly. He does not believe his patients should be prevented from assisting in their own recovery, by placing restrictions what they do. He was full of encouragement. His 'can do' attitude meant that I was out of bed a few hours post op, on an exercise bike and in the gym, assisted by physiotherapists. It was less than a week before I was walking without crutches. My whole experience has been positive and successful.

First Class experience from Consultation to rehabilitation. Mr Stratford is the best Surgeon I have come across. Nothing is too much trouble and monitors your progress throughout your recovery. He has also taken into account employing a great team to work along side him. Caroline PA is extremely organised and nothing is too much trouble. Mr Stratford explains step by step procedure and is true to his word. My recovery was amazing, driving at 4 weeks and Crutch free in the house at week 3. Nearly back to all gym activities in week 8. Having previously had the other hip operated on 4 years ago the difference between the two operations is amazing my recovery this time is so much quicker. Now I can enjoy the rest of my life pain free thanks to Mr Stafford.

Excellent care from Mr Stafford and his team from the first consultation, through surgery to post-surgery follow-up. Each of the available options was clearly explained - including options Mr Stafford would not perform but for which he was prepared to provide a referral. Replacement of my other hip is likely and, if so, I will place myself under Mr Stafford's care.

Fantastic Surgeon and genuinely friendly man, so refreshing to discuss your issues without feeling rushed out of the door, we talked about my case at length amongst other things. Very confident but realistic in what to expect. Results so far have been above and beyond. Explained everything he had done with images from the scope. Having had hip problems for 15 years and seeing so many specialist, I have leaned that seeing a specialist is not good enough, you have to see the top specialist and that is Mr Stafford. Could not recommend more highly
