With over 20 years of experience in major hip and knee replacement surgery, Mr. Godfrey Charnley is a consultant orthopedic surgeon. He uses various new technologies available in his surgical practice to encompass both young and the old. Given his expertise, he is also efficient in performing knee arthroscopy. Many hospital trusts and experienced lawyers prefer to consult Mr. Charnley for his expert opinion on joint replacement surgery issues.
Education & Experience:
Mr. Charnley graduated from St. Thomas's Hospital in London in 1983 and later worked as a trainee for the position of a Registrar in London and as a Senior Registrar in Bristol. He was acknowledged with the status of Fellow of the Higher Education Academy in 2007. With qualifications like MBBS: FRCS: FRCS Ed. FRCS Orth. FHEA, Mr. Charnley had done a fellowship training in knee surgery in Basel, Switzerland in 1992, trauma and revision joint replacement surgery in Paris, France, and a scholarship in pelvic fracture surgery in Seattle, USA both in 1995.
In Essex, Mr. Charnley has been appointed as a lecturer for teaching "surgeons in training" both cemented and cementless hip replacement surgical techniques. He later introduced many new technologies in the realm of hip surgery, including biologically coated cementless hip fixation, hip resurfacing, and small incision surgery. Before relocating to Essex, Mr. Charnley served as an Honorary Senior Lecturer and a Consultant at Derriford Hospital and The Plymouth Post Graduate Medical School for approximately 7 years i.e. from 1995 to 2002.
Owing to his original research carried out in Sweden, Italy, Eirw, Portugal, Austria, France as well as UK, Mr. Charnley was awarded the prize for his 20 years of dedication as the best scientific presentation at the Hip 2005 meeting in Toulouse, France. Mr. Charnley has also lectured other osteopaths, chiropractors, physiotherapists, and rheumatologists about advances in joint replacement surgery in all these regions. Later in September 2007, Mr. Charnley became popular for giving two instructional lectures to the South African Orthopaedic Association on the use of Trabecular Metal in Primary and Revision Hip Surgery.
Later in 2013, The European Federation of Orthopedics and Traumatology, Paris invited Mr. Charnley to be a part of a master class faculty, asking him to give a lecture on hip replacement after hip fracture and challenging hip replacement cases. Mr. Charnley also served as an examiner in the Royal College of Surgeons of England for the FRCS Orth Diploma for over ten years and also as a Regional Clinical Coordinator for the National Joint Registry.
