My career started as a British Petroleum Company scholar at Clare College Cambridge,reading engineering. I graduatedin 1970. I then worked for BP at Sunbury Research Centre and subsequently at BP head office in Moorgate, London and in the North Sea on Forties Field oil production platforms.
In 1975, I decided that surgery would offer greater challenges and satisfaction. I trained in medicine at St Bartholomews Hospital. I qualified in 1980, I undertook basic surgical training at St Bartholomews Hospital, Charing Cross Hospital and Singleton & Morriston Hospitals, Swansea. I received specialist training in Orthopaedics & Trauma at the London Hospital, Queens Medical Centre,Nottingham and St Georges Hospital London.
In the course of my training I was privileged to work for some of the great names in orthopaedics including Mr A F Lettin, Mr Alan Apley, Mr J Fixsen, Mr A Freeman and Mr C Colton.
I completed his specialist training with a Fellowship in knee & arthroscopic surgery in Melbourne, Australia with Mr John Bartlett.
I have published on a variety of orthopaedic topics and also developed a novel patented surgical intramedullary nail for fixation of distal femoral fractures, in partnership with Biomet UK Ltd.
I am also an active member of the British Medical Association BMA I was Chair of Bucks Division, past Chair of the Oxford Region Consultants and Specialists Committee and representative on national Central Consultants & Specialists Committee over a period of more than 15 years.
I was elected to serve as a member of Council of the British Orthopaedic Association from January 2013 -2015.
I practiced as an NHS Consultant at Buckinghamshire NHS Trust between 1993 ans 2014.
Since retiring from the Trust, I continue in practice at the Circle Healthcare Chiltern Hospital, seeing privately insured, self-pay and NHS patients.
