About

Mr Ian Mitchell is a highly regarded Consultant General Surgeon with more than 20 years of experience. He qualified in 1980 from the Royal London Hospital and completed his higher training in 1986. Furthermore, he gained an MS on the possible pathogenesis of Crohn’s disease and for his outstanding work he was awarded a Hunterian Professorship at the Royal College of Surgeons.

In 1994 he was appointed as Consultant at Barnet General Hospital, currently run by the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. Since then he has developed a wide range of surgical services with a particular interest in the management of gastric and colorectal cancer using highly advanced endoscopic and laparoscopic techniques. Along with his practice, throughout his career Mr Mitchell has been a successful teacher as he has held the post of Professor of Surgery at The All Asia Institute of Medicine Science & Technology.

His renowned success in the field is reflected on the numerous managerial positions he has held within the Barnet & Chase Farm NHS Trust including, Clinical Management Group Chair for Surgery, Clinical Director for Surgery and Medical Director.
