I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in Hip Surgery with over 25 years of experience. I run a very 'hands on' practice working with wonderful people who share my values and help me to look after my patients to the highest standard. I was a medical student at Oxford, and did my orthopaedic training in Oxford, Bath, Adelaide and Birmingham. I was appointed to Southampton General Hospital in 1998, and went into full time private practice in 2016. I see patients at the Nuffield Health Wessex Hopital, and King Edward VII's Hospital London.
I have specialist expertise in complex hip replacements, particularly in cases involving developmental dysplasia and Perthes’ disease, as well as hip resurfacing for younger patients and revision hip surgery. I played a pivotal role in addressing challenges associated with metal-on-metal hip replacements, dedicating years to establishing clinical pathways for identification and treatment both within the NHS and private sector. I founded the Metal Hips Research Group, a collaboration of scientists, engineers, and surgeons to address shared issues and provide effective leadership and support.
I've been all over the world presenting at national and international courses and meetings on hip surgery. I have been involved in the development of innovative solutions, contributing to teams working on a ceramic hip resurfacing and new hip stem designs.

Mr Latham was recommended to me by a friend in 2016 and replaced my left hip that year. I was very happy with the outcome and had no hesitation in choosing him in 2023 to carry out my right hip surgery in January 24. I have also recommended Mr Latham to two friends who were extremely pleased with their outcomes.

If you are waiting for hip surgery, have you considered self-pay? It's expensive, but you can get the treatment that you need within a few weeks. You choose when, where and by whom your surgery is done. Most private hospitals offer self-pay packages, and you can usually get interest-free credit.

Are you going through the menopause? It's a difficult time for many women, and often made worse by hip pain. I see a lot of it as a hip surgeon. Underlying these symptoms are the complex relationships between hormones, inflammation and age. Genetic factors play a part as well. In this video I will discuss inflammation and how the menopause affect it. We'll look at ways of helping the symptoms and where to get help. Would you be interested in a 'one stop' menopause/inflammation/joint pain service?
