Mr Joseph Curry is a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon who trained on the South East of England rotation and was awarded the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons' medal for outstanding performance in the intercollegiate examination prior to taking up his current post in 2003. He is currently the specialty lead for neonatal and paediatric surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Joseph's main areas of interests include gastrointestinal (bowel) surgery and treating children born with abnormalities of the abdominal wall, diaphragm and gastrointestinal tract. Particular areas of expertise are in oesophageal surgery, anti-reflux surgery and lower bowel surgery including children with ano-rectal anomalies, Hirschsprung’s disease and inflammatory bowel disease. He is also highly experienced in laparoscopic (key-hole) surgery even in infants as small as 1kg.
Joseph is also highly active in training senior trainees in surgery in his NHS practice. He is a member of the British Association of Paediatric Surgeons Education and Training committee. He holds a post-graduate Certificate and Diploma in medical education from the University of London and is currently studying for a masters degree in medical education. He is the specialty lead for neonatal and paediatric surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital.
Neonatal surgery including all forms of reconstruction, key-hole surgery (laparoscopy) including anti reflux surgery (nissen fundoplication), assisted feeding such as gastrostomy and jejunostomy tube insertion, the surgery of childhood including hernias, hydroceles, undescended testes, umbilical hernias and circumcision for medical reasons.
