About

Mr Saksena has been a Consultant Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgeon since 2009. He undertook his medical training in Scotland and graduated with honours in 1995. He underwent his initial surgical training in the UK and Australia before embarking on his specialist orthopaedic training on the prestigious Royal London Hospital Rotation. He has worked and lived in the North London area since 2002.

Joyti Saksena's clinical practice lies in hip and knee joint replacement surgery, complex primary hip replacement and revision hip and knee replacement.

He performs arthroscopic knee surgery and soft tissue knee reconstruction including anterior cruciate ligament and medial patella-femoral ligament reconstruction. He has a keen interest in joint preservation surgery of the hip and knee and undertakes procedures to try and prevent the need for joint replacement particularly in the younger patient including hip arthroscopy.

During his training he undertook 3 specialist fellowships:

  • Hip Reconstruction under the guidance of Miss Sarah Muirhead-Allwood at the Princess Grace and King Edward VII hospitals, London.
  • Hip and Knee arthroplasty fellowship at The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. Under the guidance of Mr K Tucker (past president British Hip Society)
  • Specialist Knee fellowship at The Royal Free and Wellington Knee Unit under the guidance of Mr GSE Dowd and Mr HE Ware.

His other roles include Director of Medical Education at the Royal Free London NHS Trust, where he is responsible for the training needs of over 600 trainee doctors over 3 hospitals.

His research interest lies in improving surgical and quality of life outcomes. His aim is to provide enhanced recovery by adopting approaches that improve the whole patient journey from pre-operative assessment to post-operative rehabilitation. He has published and presented his research work in Europe and the USA.

Joyti Saksena keeps up to date by attending national and international scientific meetings. He undertook a traveling surgeon visit to the USA to visit surgeons who specialise in conservative hip and custom knee replacement techniques. He has adopted 3D computer-aided planning in to his practise and patient specific implants.

He is keen on innovation in orthopaedics and has been involved in the design and testing of a number of orthopaedic implants.

He lives in North London with his wife and two children.

I recently had a PRP injection on the recommendation of Mr Saksena to help with the bursitis and tendinitis on my hip. I had this injection some 6 weeks ago and I-have to say I have not been in as much discomfort, in fact the pain I had in my gluteus maximas has more or less gone. I still have some slight pain on what was my painful hip, but I am hopeful this will disappear in the next few weeks. Very pleased I had this procedure, and if necessary would have it again.

Mr Saksena undertook a full knee replacement for my mum, we could not have been more happy with the results and recovery. She had been suffering with arthritic knee's and Mr Saksena has really been a god send, her recovery has been much shorter than anticipated and she is literally pain free now. Next stop the other one and she is good to run a marathon.

Mr Saksena was brilliant from the start of my consultation to the last (hopefully!) one yesterday He took time to explain everything and make me feel at ease. And the resulting scar from my surgery is unbelievably neat, which shows great skill I would highly recommend him to anyone getting an ACL repair

Recently underwent total knee replacement surgery performed by the excellent Mr Saksena. Both during an earlier consultation and again prior to the procedure taking place, Mr Saksena explained fully the nature of the surgery to be performed and the aftercare. Seven weeks on I am extremely delighted at the progress made so much so that after no more than two sessions of physio I have pretty much a full range of movement. I cannot thank Mr Saksena and his team enough for everything they have done for me. I feel as though I have been given a new lease of life and hope to be back playing golf shortly!

Mr Joyti Saksena

Thank you for taking the time to leave some feedback. Timely surgery can make a huge difference to outcome. However, your dedication to your own post operative recovery and rehabilitation is just as important. I wish you every success for the future.
