Mr. Mahbub Alam is a highly skilled Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in knee surgery and sports injuries. He works at Colchester Hospital University Foundation Trust and has been providing excellent care to patients since 2017. Prior to his appointment in Colchester, he served as a Consultant in London from 2014.

He completed the NE Thames Orthopaedic rotation, gaining valuable experience at renowned hospitals in London and Essex, including The Royal London Hospital and The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (Stanmore). He underwent specialised training in knee surgery, sports injuries, and arthroplasty during his Knee, Sports Injuries, and Lower Limb Trauma fellowship at UHS Southampton, a centre for the European Knee Fellowship.
Mr. Alam has made significant contributions to the field of orthopaedics through his research. He has published research articles in prestigious international journals, focusing on topics such as total knee replacements, knee sports and ligament injuries, and patella instability. He actively participates in academic activities, serving as a reviewer for the Bone & Joint Journal and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. He has also been involved in leading multi-center studies on knee replacement outcomes. Additionally, Mr. Alam shares his knowledge and expertise by teaching on various courses for senior doctors and surgeons, including FRCS (Tr & Orth) and ATLS.
Outside of his medical career, Mr. Alam engages in education and mentorship. He dedicates time to teaching and mentoring students for GCSEs and provides career guidance in Tower Hamlets.

Mr Alam showed an excellent level of communication at all times he asked relevant questions to gain good insight into my injury and how it was possibly sustained. Mr Alam gave a full explanation of the findings of my MRI alongside options for treatment and allowed me time to decide what treatment I felt was best for me. Mr Alam ensured I was fully informed of the procedure chosen and maintained an excellent level of input after surgery.

Mr Alam has improved the quality of my health both physically and mentally. He always took time to explain everything I needed to know, answered any questions I had and reassured wherever needed. He made me feel relaxed, at ease and confident in his skills as a surgeon. I felt he would take good care of me, and he did.

His level of care is outstanding, I cannot rate him highly enough. He listened to my problem and listened to what I wanted ultimately. He managed my expectations and was professional throughout. He took time and I never felt rushed. Pre and post op care was exceptional as well as during surgery which I was awake for.
