With an early prostate cancer diagnosis back in August 2018, I was on 'watchful waiting' until my PSA level started to rise in early 2019. As a result I had robotic radical prostatectomy following clear and relaxed advice from Mr Laniado. With this process being developed and improved all the time, the combination of the Retzius sparing technique, frozen section checking during the operation, and a 'super-pubic' catheter all allowed for amazingly fast post op recovery with no pain to speak of! I couldn't recommend Mr. Laniado highly enough, and will forever be grateful for his guidance and skill through this whole process. A Big Thank You.
Following prostate cancer diagnosis in early May 2019 I underwent robotic radical prostatectomy later that month under the care of Mr Laniado and his excellent team. Mr Laniado is obviously expert and highly skilled in specialising in the Retzius sparing technique applied in my case, which I now understand and appreciate can greatly assist in post operative recovery. The operation went according to plan and I suffered minimal post operative pain and the aftercare has been exemplary. The potential incontinence side effects, which he carefully explained to me, have been minimal and I was ‘dry’ without the need for pads within a couple of weeks of the surgery and building in confidence daily. I would wholeheartedly recommend Mr. Laniado to any man needing guidance or treatment for prostate related problems. Many thanks.
From the outset Mr Laniado clearly and carefully explained the processes and options around the various tests and procedures related to my prostrate problems. All tests were undertaken in a way to put me at ease and, once a diagnosis of prostrate enlargement was confirmed, the various remedial options were fully explained and discussed in a pressure free environment. I opted for the HoLEP procedure which went smoothly and was followed up with the necessary post operative care and tests. I would fully recommend Mr Laniado.
It is 3 weeks since I had an Aquablation procedure for an enlarged prostrate due to BPH carried out by Mr Laniado at the Weymouth Street Hospital. The results have been excellent with improved urinary flow and less requirement to pass urine, especially at night. Discomfort when passing urine lasted approximately 2 weeks and was eased in the first few days with either paracetamol or codeine. Mr Laniado thoroughly explained the various treatment options available and I would commend him on his excellent skill and professionalism which he has demonstrated throughout.
I had a Holmium laser bladder neck incision operation under Mr Laniado and am very pleased with the care and highly skilled expertise that he has demonstrated. He fully explained the options available and the details of the procedure. There was no pressure and I was fully consulted at all stages leading up to the operation. The operation has been a complete success and I am feeling the benefits already just one month after it. This I put down to the skill of Mr Laniado and I have no hesitation at recommending Mr Laniado to carry out this procedure.
I underwent a robotic radical prostatectomy in January 2019. From the time of my first consultation and subsequent diagnosis Mr. Laniado showed great empathy and compassion. His manner was exemplary and his expertise in this specialist area hugely impressive. He explained everything in appropriate detail, was patient, and reassuring about the likely outcomes of the various options. As for the operation itself, everything went very smoothly and according to plan. I suffered little pain afterwards and the side effects were minimal compared with the list of 'what could happen' that surgeons are obliged to provide. He came to see me several times in the short time I remained in hospital after the operation. He is obviously someone at the pinnacle of his calling in this very specialist and complex cutting-edge surgery. His follow-up after-care has been equally top-notch. I would wholeheartedly commend Mr. Laniado to anyone needing guidance or treatment for prostate troubles
I have been reassured by my care and the attention and diligence that Mr Laniado has given to my problems.
I received an unexpected diagnosis of prostate cancer in January 2019. I was recommended to see Marc Laniado. A multiparametric MRI scan and a targeted biopsy confirmed the diagnosis. A PET-CT scan showed that there was no significant spread of cancer outside the prostate. The recommended treatment was a Retzius sparing prostatectomy but not before I was given the opportunity to consult an oncologist to weigh up the pros and cons versus radiotherapy. I also had the complication of atrial fibrillation and Marc referred me to a cardiologist to ensure I was fit to withstand the rigours of a major operation. At the end of March the operation took place. Two weeks later I am pretty well back to normal fitness with no significant urine leakage. Marc has carried out a very thorough and skilled technical process to achieve a highly successful outcome.
He has also interacted really easily with me and my wife who sat in on all the discussions-a great help. His secretarial staff provided reassuring support to help organise the many consultations and hospital appointments.
Over the last year Mr. Laniado has been guiding me through (and carrying out operations when applicable) for elevated PSA levels, a prostate MRI, prostate biopsies, diagnosis of very low grade prostate cancer, active surveillance of the cancer and enlarged prostate reduction treatment (rezum / TUNA). I found the minimally invasive rezum was an incredible treatment for prostate reduction. With regards to urinary symptoms there have been miraculous results so far. (Please note rezum is a treatment for enlarged prostate not cancer). I cannot recommend Mr. Laniado highly enough for his tremendous skills and reassuring help during, and through, a difficult time
I am a healthy, fit, 68-year old man who was diagnosed with intermediary cancer of the prostate in mid-December 2018 and was referred to consultant urologist Marc Laniado. I was in South Africa at the time and Mr Laniado called me there, to explain that as the prostate was enlarged, I was not a candidate for any therapy and I was given the option of high surveillance or removal of the prostate. After lengthy consideration I decided that high surveillance was not an option for me personally so planned to have the robot assisted Retzius nerve-sparing radical prostatectomy. I flew to London to meet top urologist Marc Laniado. His approach was direct and at all times most professional, yet empathetic. There were absolutely no surprises for me as a patient, except perhaps a personal visit from Marc at 11.30 pm to check on me and ensure that I was comfortable following surgery. After only 3 nights in hospital I was released and within the next 5 days the clamps and supra-pubic catheter were removed. I was absolutely dry with no after effects at all. Urinary function is more normal than it has been for a long time, so much so, that a week after surgery I could sit through a performance at the Royal Opera House! I don't know too many people who will travel 6000 miles for a procedure, but it was worth every mile for this outcome. I hope this account of my experience will encourage more men who are unsure to confidently consider this route. Congratulations and thank you Marc!
I am 76 years old and had not experienced any symptoms indicating a prostate problem at all. A high PSA level was detected from a blood test which led onto a referral to Marc Laniado.
Marc organised the various tests and performed a biopsy to confirm the diagnosis of prostate cancer. We then met and discussed the way forward, Marc ran through all the treatment options and answered all my questions the last one being what would you do in my position ? In my case the cancer was organ confined .... his advice was to have the prostate removed.
I was more than happy to accept his advice as I knew of his skills with robotic surgery and my confidence was entirely justified being borne out by a very successful operation carried out at The Royal Berkshire Hospital in Reading. I was back to work within two weeks.
Marc’s surgical and communication skills were very ably supported by all the nursing staff I met along the investigations and treatment journey who were caring and very professional. Three months after with a small leak now and again, I feel fully recovered and I think I am very lucky Marc does what he does. Thank you.
The operation was successful and I'm back to normal after my HOLEP. I am very happy - I can pass urine fantastically and I don't get up so much at night.
Mr Laniado showed highly professional and caring manner throughout. All my options were thoroughly explained and all my question answered fully. The procedure was very successful, and recovery was much less painful and quicker than I expected. My quality of life has improved considerably. I am sleeping more and am able to get out and about without worrying about the next toilet stop.
I was referred to my local hospital for tests after an elevated PSA result. They promptly MRI'd me and booked me in for a transrectal prostate biopsy without delay. It was all happening very quickly but I was concerned that this was not the best biopsy method for me. Choosing a consultant without a personal recommendation is difficult. I started with a hospital that was known to me and then looked at online consultant biographies and some wider research - this led me to Mr Laniado. I felt completely comfortable discussing my situation with him and he suggested I had a second MRI, but this time with a centre that has the best equipment and radiologists for prostate scans. He clearly explained what my options were and I was reassured by the knowledge that if a further investigation proved to be necessary he would do a transperineal biopsy. As it happens, the MRI showed nothing of concern and all I need to do is have an annual PSA blood test; not a problem for a man in his 70s! This was the best of outcomes for me, and my thanks to Mr Laniado for guiding me through this difficult time with his skills, understanding and professionalism.
Following my annual review with my GP he detected a higher PSA than normal [8.6] .
l researched the possible consultants and, following tests it was clear that l had an enlarged prostate ,which in turn was restricting my ability to urinate freely.
l went to see Marc Laniado and he explained the options and we decided to have a Holep operation to reduce the size of the prostate.
All went well and, within a couple of weeks my flow has improved and l feel really well,so a great success.
Marc is very caring and reassuring and clearly is at the top of his field .
Marc Laniado was very methodical in walking me through the process, together with the possible risks. He also shared his experience and results from past processes. I am pleased to say that everything that Marc said would be the most probable outcome was correct. I was told that my recover would be helped by being fit and strong before the operation - it was. My recovery would be helped by losing weight - it was. I was told that Marc's preferred procedure would result in me being "dry" quicker - I am. I was fortunate to have been diagnosed before having any symptoms and I have come away from the operation strong and active. I would recommend Marc Laniado without hesitation to anyone in the same position.
Mr Laniado performed the Holmium Laser Enucleation procedure for my very enlarged prostate . He explained the procedure thoroughly in my initial consultation, and also when I checked into the hospital for the procedure which was very reassuring. He also pointed out any problems which might occur after the operation, which thankfully did not happen in my case. The procedure went very well and I was looked after well for my short stay in hospital.
Mr Laniado gave me very good feedback as to how the procedure went and his conclusions during my post op appointments, which I found very informative and helpful. I found him to be very pleasant and professional at all times, and I was very lucky to have been treated by him.
Mark Laniado is an excellent consultant . Having done the HIFU procedure for me He has successfully removed my cancer from me . Which I am very, very grateful for. Many thanks
Took time to explain procedure
Back to normal in 3 months
Very slight leakage
Sexual factions back to normal
As a 76 year old man I am happy to report that the HoLEP operation was very successful and I recovered with no pain and very little discomfort. Mr Laniado saw me promptly, explained the procedures clearly and allayed all my concerns. My recovery from the anaesthetic took 3 weeks and made me very lethargic. I had a very swollen prostrate and catheter before the operation.
I am extremely grateful to Mr Laniado for educating me about my enlarged prostate condition and the options available to deal with it. He always took the time to patiently explain the issues and answer my numerous questions. Following our discussions, I chose to undergo the HoLEP as a long term solution and Mr Laniado carried out the surgery at The Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor. Everything went well and I received first class treatment from everyone. Its now more than 4 weeks since the operation and I am already starting to forget I ever had a problem. I am seeing real improvements in my life. Mr Laniado made everything very straightforward and I felt confident that I could trust him to deal with this problem. Thank Goodness that I found him.
I have been under Mr Laniado for over 3 years now since initial referral due to minor Upper Urinary Tract Symptoms and a slightly elevated PSA. Through regular consultation, monitoring and diagnostics I was eventually diagnosed with early stage Prostate Cancer which was eventually treated through Surgery and I'm pleased to say I'm now in remission. Throughout my journey, the standard of care has been fantastic. Mr Laniado always took the time to explain clearly all aspects of, and options for treatment and was readily accessible to answer any queries or concerns. I have no doubt that the course of treatment that we decided on for me was the right one. In addition to the clinical aspects of my treatment, Mr Laniado's secretarial support have always been accessible, reliable and responsive in dealing with the non clinical aspects of my treatment. I would have no hesitation in recommending Mr Laniado.
Mr Laniado offered me Retzius-sparing prostatectomy using a robotic procedure or a course of radiotherapy. I opted for the prostatectomy as I wanted rid of the organ and any cancer it contained. He carefully explained how the procedure would work and how it differed from other approaches to prostatectomy, One of the key advantages of the approach was a faster recovery. I was walking the day following the operation and weaned of painkillers after two days (apart from paracetomol for a further few days only). I had no urine leakage or incontinence and no blood loss in the urine or faceces, and the catheters were removed relatively quickly. I was delighted with the procedure and am recovering well. I was very confident in Mr Laniado and impressed by his care. He was extremely attentive to my concerns and fully answered all my questions. Without question, I would recommend this approach to others facing prostate cancer.
Marc is a quietly spoken, gentle consultant who took me through my initial consultations, a flexible cystoscopy, and the successful removal of my prostate using the HoLEP procedure.
I have some interest in the workings of the body and Marc took pleasure in answering all of my questions.
I am delighted to have made his acquaintance.
I have recently undertaken HIFU ultrasound treatment for my prostate cancer carried out by Mr Marc Laniado. The operation was on the 23rd April 2018 at Princess Margaret Hospital Windsor and took several hours followed by an overnight stay in hospital. Following the op I have had no mobility problems although there were some minor pain episodes when urinating but this improved over time. It took four weeks to rid the debris from the operation which was passed in the urine. I have not had any continence problems but have diminished erectile function which I am told will improve over time. As of now 10th August my PSA level is 1.55 which has very much improved since December 2017 when it was 4.3.
I am very pleased with the outcome of the HIFU treatment and according to the results of the the PSA tests and the recent MRI scan it has been a success.
I have had a surgery a general anaesthetic carried out by Mr Marc Laniado in May 2018. I have had a swift recovery and was extremely pleased with the outcome of the surgery. I have seen him for follow up appointment several times in June and July. He has provided me a great aftercare following the surgery. Mr Laniado is not just a highly capable surgeon but he has outstanding knowledge and expertise. He is kind, caring, reassuring and comforting. Thank you Mr Laniado.
Further to my original review, it is now 7 weeks since my nerve-sparing prostatectomy and in addition to much improved urine flow and zero incontinence (previously reported here) I can now confirm that my sexual capability is returning to normality without the need for Viagra. Also, a further benefit is that I am enjoying better sleep, often being able to go right through the night without needing to get up to pee.
I recently underwent a Holep procedure for benign prostate enlargement last month at Princess Margaret hospital Windsor, and have been delighted with the results. I would thoroughly recommend Marc as a specialist in this field, he was professional, caring and kept me fully informed at all times, from the initial consultation and tests through to the operation and follow-up
Having a family history of prostate cancer, I have monitored my PSA level for several years. It rose in February 2018 and an MRI and biopsy confirmed that I have a small number of cancer cells. Although at an early stage and thought to be confined to the prostate, the cells were quite fast growing. Marc Laniardo advised that given my circumstances, intervention was recommended and described fully my options, which included both High Frequency Ultrasound and Retzius - Sparing (nerve sparing) Robot-Assisted Prostatectomy. He also explained the pro’s and con’s including possible side-effects. As my cancer is quite aggressive and the kind from which I preferred to be parted from sooner rather than later, I chose surgery. This has been a life-changing success. Not only have the cancer cells gone with a very low chance of recurrence, but also my flow is very much improved. Above all, the nerve sparing technique has fulfilled its promise, and I was completely ‘dry’ once home from hospital with no urinary incontinence. I can wholeheartedly recommend Marc’s approach to the surgery, his use of a more comfortable supra-pubic catheter and overall, his friendly informative and reassuring manner.
I found Marc Laniado to be outstandingly polite, helpful and understanding of the concerns of the patient from the outset. Through the whole process of assessment, biopsy and surgery I had 100% confidence that I was being treated by the very best of consultant surgeons in the field of urology. The fact that post surgery I suffered no pain whatsoever, no discomfort and no incontinence must be a testament to his skill and I feel very much indebted to him. Without question, I would not hesitate to recommend him to other prostate cancer sufferers or other urology conditions.
I’m very happy with the way that I feel after my prostate operation. Doctor Marc Laniado is the first doctor that I met. My prostate was 6-7 times bigger than normal. Dr. Laniado did a great job. Thank you very very much.
Very pleased with the result of the HoLEP operation, it's put the clock back 20 Years regarding bladder function.
I met with Mr.Laniado on the 4tApril at Wexham Hospital after my biopsy investigation which showed that i had prostate cancer and was given the option of a operation to remove my prostate or to have radio therapy. I thought about this and desided that removal of the prostate sounded the best option as it could possibly mean that i could be cancer free and my waterworks would be back to normal as before i got an enlarged prostate years earlier.
Mr.Laniado did the operation at Reading hospital on the 27th April which envolved Robotic Radical Prostatectomy and also he used a Suprapubic catheter for drain which i found to be much more confortable than a catheter inserted in the Penis, also i found after the operation that i did not have any pain only a small amount of soreness from incisions. I met again with Mr.Laniado on the 5th. June and he was very pleased with my progress as i was down to one incontinance pad per day as i was religiously doing my Pelvic floor exerices.
I would like to thank Mr. Laniado and i would recommend him to anyone that asked.
Whilst having the worst news ever given to me about my prostate cancer, the treatment I received was excellent. Mark and his team were extremely helpful and gave me all my options to consider. It was clear Mark was very experienced and had a great bed Side manner. I was very informed and felt at ease. The robotic surgery was not invasive and the cancer is now gone. I also had some personal requirements that had to be meet with the type of acceptable treatment which mark and his team accepted and complied with during my surgery. If anyone has cancer then I can personally recommend Mark Laniado as a skillful and experienced surgeon who took a personal interest in me as an individual. My care after was second to none. Thank you Mark regards.
I had a prostatectomy with Mr Laniado at the Wellington Hospital in London. The whole process from the diagnosis of the cancer to the operation was managed very efficiently. Throughout, it was totally undramatic. I had been told that my bladder would leak for 3 to 6 months after the operation. However Mr Laniado carried out a revised procedure of his own, and I was completely dry from the moment the catheter was removed. Now that's what I call impressive! I would thoroughly recommend Mr Laniado.
Dr Laniado is a man that I trust, a true professional, a thoroughly nice person to deal with and a doctor that I would highly recommend.
Mr Laniado performed a holmium laser incision of the bladder neck. My symptoms have improved as promised with no adverse effects 4.5 weeks post procedure. Procedure was described very clear to me and all went as explained. Very happy with the results.
I was completely satisfied with the way Marc carried out my operation and his manner throughout was excellent. He is a very pleasant man and we got on famously! i would recommend him without hesitation.
I was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer in early December, and had a robotic prostatetectomy performed by Marc Laniado in early January. The surgery went well and in terms of basic health, I recovered very quickly. Blood test and histology have shown that the cancer has been cleared by the surgery. I was fit and active beforehand and that undoubtedly helped my recovery, but I have been pleasantly surprised at how quickly I have been able to resume all my pre-surgery activities at similar levels, and I believe the quality of the surgery must have contributed to this. Incontinence is recovering - maybe 90% back to before - but Mr Laniado warned me that this would be a problem for me given my particular physiology. In fact, in everything expectations were set appropriately and the advice given, the treatment, and the aftercare has met or exceeded those expectations. Most importantly, I have felt completely safe in the treatment and medical advice given, and also in wider suggestions on diet and lifestyle. I would unhesitatingly recommend Mr Laniado to others finding themselves in a similar situation.
Mr Laniado performed a robotic prostatectomy for me in November 2017. Everything went well and I would like to thank him for his support and skill. Post-op I had some trouble with incontinence. I had to wear three or four ‘nappies’ daily. The Kegel Exercises had little effect. I then bought a Mirafit Pilates Ring from Amazon for £9. Within two days I was gaining control. Two weeks later I was practically dry. I now wear just one pad, mostly for giving me confidence and dealing with the occasional minor mishap. This simple device gives a physical focus for the exercises and the resistance on the pelvic floor muscles trains them quickly. I don’t know if it would work for everyone but it my case it was like a switch had been thrown. It would have been good to use it pre-op.
I recently had a Urolift procedure By Dr Marc Laniado at the Wellington Hospital because I had an enlarged prostate . Before the procedure I had a very slow urime flow with far too many visits to the loo. It was affecting my daily life in terms of work and socially .
Since the procedure and although it’s taken a few weeks to experience the full affects of the procedure I can now say that it’s been a success as I have seen a big difference .
I wish to thank Dr Marc Laniado who has been the reason for getting me back to normal with this procedure . He had been excellent pre and post procedure in being very informative , very attentive and an excellent surgeon .
I would hapilly and highly recommend Dr Laniado to any one that has such prostate problems .
When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer Marc explained the options to me. He helped me work out what was most important to me so I could make a decision. He also referred me to an oncologist for a second opinion. I found it difficult to get me head round all this and I think Marc stopped me getting lost. I decided to have a Retzius-sparing, nerve-sparing robotic prostatectomy performed by Marc. I got a negative surgical margin (negative is good). They took the catheter out a few days ago and I don't seem to have incontinence issues. I was waking up with partial erections while the catheter was in which was a welcome surprise, if a bit painful. Since the catheter was removed a few days ago I've woken up a couple of times with something approaching a full erection, also a welcome surprise. I think Marc's patient management skills and surgical skills have turned a grim situation into something that is now looking really quite good. Thanks.
Had prostatectomy and side effects much less than expected. Mr Laniado kept us informed at all times and has been professional and caring.
Excellent level of care throughout diagnosis, HIFU treatment and follow-ups with very pleasing result
Marc has guided me though the whole process of dealing with prostate cancer from initial diagnosis, active surveillance, robot-assisted prostatectomy and now successful aftercare. I am delighted with the result (full continence and erectile function with no sign of disease). He is skilful, attentive, and highly approachable. I can highly recommend him.
After 2 years of monitoring my PSA through the NHS an MIR scan indicated the need for a biopsy of my prostrate. I sought the advice of Marc Laniado who fully explained the options and likely outcomes.
The biopsy was performed at Princess Margaret Hospital following a 3T MIR scan and the presence of cancer within the prostate was confirmed. Marc’s advice was to remove the prostate and he clearly explained the robotic technique he would employ and the likely ramifications. He gave me and my wife great confidence. The operation was performed at The Royal Berkshire Hospital where he has an excellent team and I was home within 24 hours. The process was pain free and I attended a dinner the day after the catheter was removed. I returned to golf within three weeks and now, six month on, have just returned from a five week tour of South Africa. I can certainly commend the professional skill and care of Marc and his team.
Following recommendations from friends and searching his website, I consulted Mr Laniado about my enlarged prostate.
He immediately suggested the HoLEP procedure, patiently answered my many questions and gave very clear explanations of the process.
The results of my surgery are excellent, thanks to the skill and knowledge of this outstanding and dedicated surgeon.
I can recommend him wholeheartedly.
I have to thank Mr Laniado for returning my quality of life following consultation and tests due to my then urinary problems which were affecting my nightly sleep patterns. Thank you very much.
Mr Laniado has provided an excellent service to me, a enquiring and somewhat troubled patient.
Following the referral from my GP for bladder and/or prostate problems, my initial appointment with Mr Laniado was made very quickly, and this led to a series of investigations, all in a short space of time, to uncover my particular problem.
The treatment options were discussed with me, at length, and clear advice given. However, no pressure was put on me to accept one particular course of action or another.
I have full confidence that the procedure I need will be carried out with great skill and care.
I was referred to Mr Laniado because of urinary symptoms that were troubling me. He has dealt with me in a sympathetic and highly competent way. I have no hesitation in recommending him to others with their urological problems.
I am pleased to write a very positive review about my dealings and treatment I have received from Mr Laniado. From the moment i contacted his office through to the various consultations the service responsiveness and professionalism was first class. He clearly understands his area of expertise and handled all my naive questions thoroughly, explaining clearly what needed to happen. If you need to use his services you will soon realise you are in good hands.
Mr Laniado instilled great confidence in me with his knowledge, understanding, explanation and treatment of my condition.
He was extremely personable and professional.
I consider he saved my life and would not hesitate to recommend him.
I was very pleased and impressed with the treatment and after care I received from Mr Laniado. He explained in detail the procedures and what I should experience in the recovery and the improvements I should begin to notice in the post operative period. Very satisfied.
I was diagnosed with low grade prostate cancer in 2014 and Marc has been my consultant since. In 2015 after a year of 'active surveillance' I underwent HIFU (high intensity ultrasound treatment) performed by Marc. I am happy to say that I am now cancer free. Marc is extremely talented and knowledgeable and I have always trusted his judgement and advice. He is one of the leading experts in his field. Marc made me aware of treatments (like HIFU) that are far less invasive and have fewer side effects than other forms of prostate cancer treatment. So I have always felt that he is at the cutting edge of insight and learning. He is also very personable, reassuring easy to get on with. I would thoroughly recommend him to anyone seeking an expert with the patient's needs at heart.
I have known Mr Marc Laniardo since I first approached him towards the end of 2010 for his guidance and advice after prostate cancer was suspected. His leading expertise in Urology and the Robotic Assisted da Vinci procedure in particular, sets him apart as a very dedicated and approachable senior Consultant Urologist. Nerve sparing is the key to this relatively painless - 'key-hole' technique. His pragmatic approach, professional guidance, knowledge and first class patient care, ensures that he is the first choice and number one in this field of specialised surgery. He is ably supported by his secretaries at Windsor Urology
I was diagnosed with prostrate cancer in mid December and following several appointments at various hospitals accepted robotic radical prostatectomy as a solution
Marc Laniado operated on 12 January and I have to express my grateful thanks to him and all the team involved not only with the operation but during the recovery period at the Royal Berkshire hospital
Everyone involved showed a great understanding and professionalism and I would like to thank all of them for their help
Well done to the NHS-brilliant
I was referred to Marc Laniado in July 2017 following a series of high PSA readings and saw him for the first time in his rooms at the Princess Margaret Hospital in Windsor. Following a thorough examination I was sent for an MRI scan which revealed the strong possibility of Prostate Cancer. Three days later I was having a biopsy which unfortunately showed significant evidence of cancer. Throughout this increasingly scary experience, Marc explained the significance , options and his personal recommendations and I was scheduled for surgery 6 weeks later ( allowing time for the after affects of the biopsy to subside ). Marc suggested surgery at the London clinic using robotic precision. All went well and two days after surgery I was discharged. I had two follow up appointments the first to discuss the outcome of the operation and the second to review my post operative PSA test. I am delighted to report that all is now well and I am back playing golf with almost full bladder control.
Throughout this terrifying ordeal Marc was by my side. He is in huge demand and extremely busy but despite this he was proactive at every stage, calming me down, providing accurate and objective analysis and reassuring me and my wife that I would be fine. His professionalism is extraordinary and his skill right at the top of his peer group as evidenced by the speed of my recovery. I cannot recommend him highly enough and apart from all else he is one of life's nicest guys.
Yearly check up following radical prostatectomy in June 2012 - a successful operation. Marc Laniado spotted the possible cancer when others may well not have and arranged its speedy treatment. Subsequent checks have been thoroughly and sympathetically carried out and good advice given.
I am a 54 year old male who first encountered Mr Marc Laniado over 3 years ago. Admittedly it would have been nicer to meet him in a pub rather than the consulting room to be told my PSA results and inferences. However with his support, encouragement, enthusiasm and knowledge I went on to the active surveillance program. Quarterly reviews with Marc gave me the growing confidence that a radical prostectomy would be on the cards for me at some stage so decided sooner rather than later would be the best path for me. Mid last year was when I went in for the operation by Marc and his superb team. I cannot praise the approach, operation and aftercare highly enough from all concerned.
I am extremely pleased to say that I have remained completely dry since the operation (this was my main concern but not everybody's) and it has (so far) shown up as being a complete success with PSA levels now being insignificant.
It is rare these days to come across people who are truly inspiring in their knowledge, professionalism and approach. Marc and his team have these abilities with out doubt.
Hopefully you will not require his services but if you do - you will be in excellent hands.
On behalf of my whole family, I cannot praise Mr Laniado highly enough for his expertise, skill and kindness to us over the past few months. In September of this year, my father had the worrying results of an elevated PSA test, and after much research we chose Mr Laniado to investigate and treat his suspected cancer on the basis of Mr Laniado's documented reputation, level of experience, and others' testimonials. We have not been disappointed - from our first meeting, it was clear Mr Laniado not only was at the forefront of his field, but genuinely cared about my father's well-being and the best possible outcome for him, as well as the anxiety that we were all facing as a family. We are so grateful for the thorough investigations he performed, his balanced, honest guidance, the contact with his peers within oncology with whom he arranged a consultation to give us a breadth of informed options, and for his meticulous planning and highly skilled execution of a robotic assisted radical prostatectomy. Not only that, but his care and concern during my father's post-operative period, and ongoing now during his monitoring period, is so greatly appreciated. Having a surgeon who is so approachable has made this stressful time so much more manageable for us all, and our experience has confirmed we have, and remain, in the very best of hands. As a member of a medically related profession myself, I understand the dedication required to provide this level of commitment and service, and the care my father has received has been second to none. We shall remain forever grateful and can wholeheartedly recommend him.
When I was diagnosed with prostate cancer after a biopsy in July 2017.After local discussions in Lincoln with my GP and Urologist I decided to undergo a robotic Prostatectomy. I was referred Mr Laniado by a previous patient who I knew well and had a successful prostate operation the previous year. I was advised that he was skilled surgeon with a good bedside manner.
His operational success statistics speak for themselves but what if his bedside manner.
From the moment we met he listened intently presented the MRI images ( which the other Urologist did not do!) and explained what was happening to my body and where and what he recommended be done.
Timing of the operation became difficult especially around Christmas but he and his team adjusted their schedule to accommodate me.
The operation was carried out and everything went as planned. The pain level was minimal especially considering the location and was walking around easily within 12 hours.
10 days on the catheter has been removed and although the bladder is learning to function again it is within the expected parameters and everything is on the mend and I am very optimistic on a full recovery. At 63 I am lucky to say that.
Mr Laniado is skilled professional with great pride in his work and only the best of intentions for his patients.
He has delivered to me exactly what he said he would do and you cannot ask for more. I would gladly recommend him and believe I was indeed blessed to have him do my operation.
I am a 48 year old male in general good health. I first contacted my GP in June 2017 with mild urinary problems, which resulted in a high PSA blood test result, biopsy and immediate referral through to NHS Urology. I was referred under the consultancy of Mr Laniado in July 2017.
I was told Mr Laniado was a leading specialist in robotic surgery for prostate removal, and this was backed up by my own research online. His methods of surgery provide the very best outcomes in terms of recovery and function compared to traditional methods of prostate surgery.
Mr Laniado performed my robotic prostate removal surgery in late October 2017. After the next week of catheter removal, I had at least 90% continence recovery and this has continued to improve to 95-100% as of December 2017. I am confident I will not need to wear any pads or shields at all by the next few weeks, as I am still seeing improvement every day.
I was very concerned about erectile issues post surgery, but I had at least 50% of function back - which came back very soon after surgery, and then increased to about 80-90% as of December 2017. I have been using tablets to further help with blood flow and function, but I am very reassured to see the results already at this very early stage.
In terms of surgery wounds and physical recovery, I have had no problems at all with healing, and was given very helpful advice and support from the nurses every step of the way. They provided phone numbers to the direct wards for any after-care queries.
Mr Laniado speaks as a modest, yet very experienced and knowledgeable professional in his field of prostate cancer. He explains things in everyday language as well as clinically, but in detail, including the full risks of surgery and recovery. Mr Laniado treated me as an individual (and including my wife). He listened carefully to all of our questions at every consultation, and answered them fully and straightforwardly at every stage of my diagnosis and procedures.
I saw Mr Laniado again at my first post-operative consultation earlier this month, and he was genuinely so happy that the procedure had gone well for us, and I was recovering so easily and quickly. He gave us lots of information and advice about post-operative and future care, exercise and dietary factors.
I am extremely grateful to Mr Laniado and his team for everything they have done for me - and my family, for such amazing quality of professionalism, care and compassion. Thank you all, very, very much.
This man saved my life. His care and thoroughness discovered an unknown tumour . Mr Laniado sets himself and his team the highest of standards and is recognised for this as well as his abilities and leading role especially within 'urology' . I am clearly very lucky to have found him .
As a 52 year old man my GP detected a raised PSA level and after discussions referred me to Mr Marc Laniado. After an MRI scan, Mr Laniado performed a MRI targetted transperineal biopsy of the prostate - absolutely no pain or discomfort after the procedure, which I was pleasantly surprised about. Mr Laniado explained the diagnosis of cancer in a very empathetic manner and discussed in detail the various options available. Despite suggesting that he felt a radical prostatectomy was the way forward, he insisted I spoke to an oncologist to obtain another perspective and talk about possible radiotherapy / brachytherapy / watch and wait options. Throughout our discussions he completely appreciated that such a cancer diagnosis can have a big impact on the family, but he was incredibly considerate with the way he spoke with my wife, answering all her questions and putting her at ease.
We eventually decided that a Retzius - sparing prostatectomy was the way forwards. Mr Laniado performed the surgery and I was catheterised for 11 days afterwards. I had bought a pack of pads to wear in preparation for when the catheter was removed, fully expecting a few days or months of 'leakage'. However not a single pad was needed! I was astonished that full bladder control was regained immediately - a testament to Mr Laniado's skill as a surgeon. Four weeks on from the surgery now and I am swimming regularly and about to start playing hockey again - more than I could possibly have hoped for before the surgery.
I have nothing but admiration for the way Mr Laniado has treated both myself and my wife. He has a very caring and empathetic manner, not rushing you into any decisions, and explaining everything with complete clarity. I have no surgical knowledge but the fact that after a radical prostatectomy I have had absolutely no urinary incontinence, suggest to me that he is an outstanding surgeon. I could not be happier that I chose him as my consultant.
i have found Mr Laniado very easy to understand and would have complete confidence in his advice. His surgical skills would seem to be excellent since I underwent a number of procedures and in all cases the after effects were as expected or better than expected. I would have no hesitation in recommending him in matters where he is a specialist.
Mr Marc Lianiado is a good communicator and makes one feel at ease; in particular the very first time when I met him. He provided me with enough literature explaining the options available for treatment of prostate cancer. I remember his first and best expression: "Prostate cancer is curable."
During the period from biopsy to 3 months after my prostatectomy my PSA went down from over 5 to "Undetectable" and that indicates to me that "Team Marc Laniado in RBH" is pure excellence and wins over alternative options!
I am a 75 year old; I never knew how cancer felt or would feel; I felt no pain of the operation and felt no effects afterwards; I was lucky to have been treated by such an excellent team.
I am delighted to have been directed to Mr Laniado whilst having knee replacement surgery, Mr Laniados kindness, consideration, professionalism and expertise have given me a knew lease of life having lived with an enlarged prostate for some years.
After. Mr Laniado performed HOLAP surgery I am thrilled to be able to have an unbroken nights sleep and normal bladder function once again .
I have the highest regard for Mr Laniado to whom I was referred for a template biopsy of the prostate. I felt totally safe under his care, before, during and after my procedure. His communication skills, and those of his team, are first rate. He was informative both in writing, on the phone, and face to face, but understood that whilst I did not want to know too much about the proceedings but wife did. He is intuitive and recognises that different people require different amounts of information. He is superbly professional in his approach, but also caring, empathetic and compassionate. His reassurance helped me to cope emotionally with the difficult experience surrounding the diagnosis of possible prostate cancer.
I would not hesitate in recommending him to other patients facing a similar scenario. I have given his details to all my male friends in case they should need help in the future.
From my 1st consultation to my Holep procedure 11 days later Marc’s expertise and communication skills were second to none. His response times to any queries I had were very quick. His bedside manner is the absolute correct blend of matter of factness whilst also understanding my concerns and emotions at the prospect of surgery.
I cannot recommend him highly enough. Superb
My initial consultation with Mr Marc Laniado, Consultant Urological Surgeon, left me in no doubt about his professionalism relating to his specialist field of medicine, the diagnostics and treatment for prostate cancer. His patient communication skills are excellent. He explained everything in detail and made sure that I fully understood at all times what was being offered in the way of diagnostic procedures and treatments, and why I should consider my options as they became available to me. He is 100% with his patients from the diagnostic stage through to the treatment and aftercare. Mr Laniado is focused on the wellbeing of his patients. He is an expert in diagnosing and treating prostate cancer. He is actively researching new surgical procedures to minimise the impact of prostate surgery. I had the good fortune to be seen by Mr Laniado as under his care I benefited by being swiftly diagnosed and treated for significant prostate cancer. I cannot recommend him highly enough to anyone who has urological symptoms.
I can add very little to the glowing reviews seen on this page. I agree with them all wholeheartedly. From my 1st consultation to my Holep procedure 11 days later
Marc’s expertise and communication skills were second to none. It seems obvious to say but I felt ‘’cared’’ for, his bedside manner is the absolute correct blend of matter of factness
and of understanding patient concerns and emotion when facing the prospect of surgery. For my money he is the Roger Federer of Urologists. Supreme.
After having had a recent Retzius-sparing prostatectomy performed by Mr Marc Laniado (and his team) as the last process of a three year journey (having started off with the active surveillance program) I cannot recommend highly enough his knowledge, advice , support and professionalism. I have the greatest respect for people of this calibre who have dedicated their working life to helping others.
With regard to the lead up to the operation and the subsequent aftercare, I felt fully informed and calm throughout and was cared for extremely well by the team he has supporting him.
It is difficult to express my gratitude and admiration in such a few words but believe me, Marc is a great man to know and an even better surgeon.
Mr Laniado had an extremely good manner and explains things very well. He was abe to diagnose my problem very quickly and went about dealing with it. What I found particularly helpful was the ability to contact him at all hours by e mail and his response time was excellent. The results of my surgery are excellent and I couldn't have wished for a better consultant. I would recommend Mr Laniado without the slightest hesitation.
In September, 2013, I underwent a radical prostatectomy in Wexham Hospital and Mr Marc Laniado was the surgeon who performed the procedure on me. I would like to put on record my sincere gratitude for the care that I received from Mr Laniado throughout the whole experience. The sheer professionalism and outstanding surgical skills combined with the terrific 'soft skills' that set the dedicated medical professional right at the top of his profession are the reasons, I can say without exaggeration, I am alive today.
From the first time I met Marc he me with confidence in his professional capacity. Although the news he had to give me was not so good, he gave me a lot of confidence and reassurance. I still see him on a regular basis for additional treatment and he and I are very pleased with the excellent progress made in five months.
I can highly recommend Marc as a person who combines professional expertise with a definite human understanding of any problems his patients may be facing.
It is some ten days since the procedure and now it has settled down, the improvement is remarkable. For the first time in many years I am able to pass urine unimpeded and completely empty my bladder with good flow. Additionally, I no longer need to get up two or three times during the night. Equally, my overall feeling of well being has also improved. Grateful thanks to Mr Laniado and his team at the Princess Margaret Hospital for their help and support. First rate.
Dr. Laniado has treated my associates and I who are comparable in age to me for the past 10 years. His approach to patient treatment is reassuring and understanding.
I myself have on a number of occasions became incontinent, it’s frightening and worrisome but with Dr. Laniado’s assurances I have persevered and regained the assurance that there are doctors who can calm you and bring you through circumstances that are frightening for the non-professional and that these medical issues are resolvable and/or controllable.
Thank you Dr. Laniado for being there.
I feel very fortunate that Marc has been there to help me with the various medical problems (prostate-related) that I have had. He takes the time to explain things very clearly and is more than happy to answer the many questions that I have. His care and concern have been top rate and he has gone out of his way to help me, sometimes at very short notice. A true caring professional.
On the basis of my expeience being helped by Mr Laniado, I would say that he has some very strong strengths, namely:
• excellent professional knowledge of both existing and developing treatments of urological and other areas of medicine
• very good communication skills, with an ability to explain difficult issues clearly
• strong empathy with patients, understanding their needs and encouraging patients to express their own opinions and feelings about ways forward.
In more simple terms, he will find out what's wrong, suggest the best thing to do and then discuss it with you. His professional knowledge and understanding will play a major part in the advice he gives.
In my experience Marc Laniado is right at the forefront of the urological profession with the latest techniques for diagnosing and treating Prostate Cancer. I am lucky that I was referred to him as he recommended the best multi parametric MRI testing some years before this was generally recognised to be the best procedure prior to biopsies. With the benefit of that he used the MRI guided trans perineal biopsy technique which is recognised to have the best outcomes both in terms of diagnosis and in terms of minimising infection and side-effects, I had no side effects and recovered very swiftly. I have since heard that Marc is considered one of the best at this biopsy technique from another respected urological surgeon. Marc has always given me good advice and treatment which I very much value.
Mr Laniado is the consummate professional. He has a very friendly manner and explains things well. He is also willing to communicate via e mail and dealt with all of my questions very promptly indeed. In addition to this he is obviously a wonderful surgeon if the results of my operation are anything to go by. I regard myself very lucky to have found such a professional practitioner- I don't think I could have found a better one.
Mr. Laniado performed a robotic prostatectomy in January and now 12 weeks post operation the results are more than I could have wished for, I found Marc excellent with his care and support with a very personal approach that helped enormously at what was a difficult time. His office staff were also brilliant.
Mr Laniado has been first class with his advice pre op and post op after discovering I had prostate cancer. Following his advice has helped me to return to a normal life. He has been reassuring through out my journey and has have great personality.
Hi, I was diagnosed with suspected prostate cancer in January 2014, aged 59. It was confirmed after having a series of scans and a biopsy in May. After a consultation with Marc Laniado, I decided to have my prostate removed, obviously I felt nervous, but there was no need, the operation was carried out in June robotically, everything went well, I felt no pain, the medical staff were very considerate and I returned to work six weeks later two years on I have no problems.
Mr Laniado is a very skilful and reassuring surgeon to whom I and my family will be forever grateful.
After going into complete and total water retention I was fortunately directed to Marc Laniado who quickly diagnosed that I actually had an enormous prostrate caused by BPH.
As I come from a very sporting background it has been my misfortune over the years to meet many consultants for many various injuries and conditions of all kinds. But I found Marc Laniado to be absolutely head and shoulders above every other Consultant I've ever met before.
Quite apart from being a brilliant surgeon who uses all of the latest techniques ,he is by far the most caring ,patient, understanding and accommodating doctor I have ever dealt with.
On more than one occasion having being woken from his sleep at 2 o'clock in the morning he was with me within half an hour sorting out my discomfort. On top of which for the frequent attention that I needed, he was always there for me every second . Nothing was too much trouble for him and he was so kind, and skillful and helpful in every way. Also the after Care he provides is equally as exceptional, and he always responds quickly to emails and telephone calls and texts. He is always contactable, always so efficient , understanding, and caring and helpful .
I'm sure you've probably got the picture by now just how high my regard is for Mr. Laniado, and I would say to anybody that reads this ..if you ever need a Urologist for anything, look no further than this man as you will not find any better man anywhere in my opinion. He is a Doctor who has great skills, modern thinking, and highly experienced in all modern procedures and gives totally unbelievable care to his patients from start to finish . And guess what.. on top of all of that he is also a really really nice guy and you will not do better believe me.
Should anybody want any further substantiation of what I said please feel free to contact me on ahiggins111@ yahoo.com and I would be happy to tell you in person just why I hold Marc Laniado in such huge high regard.
He is very professional and very caring. I have been very satisfied with the treatment that I received and I have no hesitation in recommending him.
A selling point for Marc when I was selecting a private urologist for my sudden LUTS symptoms, was that he can do the HOLEP type re-bore of a prostate (which I believed from my reading, would be ideal for my poor flow and frequency issues - and it was); the samples removed through HOLEP can be also be tested for cancer, unlike the NHS's greenlight laser re-bore operation, where no intact tissue is removed. The only other uro' in the South East I could find not too far from London who does HOLEP, was Ben Challacombe, who cites a typical total HOLEP cost of £6k to £7k on his website (if insured, Ben warns on the web that patients are likely to up paying a surplus as the bill exceeds insurance limits). Marc fell within my insurer's limits so I'd nothing to pay, he has done a fair number of holep operations, and Windsor was a convenient site for my wife to drive me home from after the op (she won't drive in Central London at all), so after consultations, tests, cystoscopy and a prostate biopsy, all of which went well, I entrusted him with the Holep. He is willing to share data, scans, test results and even links to a video of your operation by email so you have it on file for the future. He also sent letters at key points to my GP, copied also to me, informing her of the diagnosis and treatment. I don't think any man goes to a urologist other than reluctantly because circumstances force him to, but with Mr Laniado it was probably as easy as it can be.
from the time Marc told me I had prostrate cancer, in a very caring manner, to the day the op was done, my worries were but at bay, especially when Marc emailed me with the negative , prostrate and negative in the lymph nodes. , also told me he had nerve spared where feasible . The next sate was when the caffeta was removed , and no worries on holding and doing urine. A statement to his professional skil and dedication he has. I would highly recommend Marc for anyone who has the problem I faced. Truly very happy with the outcome.
I've been treated (Brachytherapy) by Marc and his team for early stage prostrate cancer. Marc has been professional, competent, polite and caring. He explained my position and options clearly and this allowed me to make an informed decision regarding treatment. I've been impressed with Marc and am very grateful for his excellent service throughout.
