Mr Martin Bircher is presently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ashtead Hospital in Ashtead, Surrey, UK, where he specializes in hip, knee, and foot surgery. He previously worked in the demanding St. George’s Major Trauma Centre in South London and enjoys the comparatively quieter environs of Ashtead Hospital, where he can focus on individual patient care.
The doctor’s education began with an MBBS from the University of London in 1977. He went on to receive significant specialized orthopaedic training in Glasgow, Nottingham, and London throughout the 1980s. This included a Fellowship in major trauma and elective arthroscopy at the Sunnybrook Major Trauma Centre in Toronto, Canada in 1987. Mr Bircher is a member of several professional societies, including serving as a lead councillor for emergency surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons England and a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association, among others. He maintains an active interest in research and publishing, with over 70 major peer-reviewed publications to his name, primarily in the areas of trauma, pelvic surgery, medical negligence, and orthopaedics. His wealth of skill and talent has earned him prestigious editorial positions for both the Bone and Joint Journal and the journal INJURY.
