Mr Martin Bircher is presently a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Ashtead Hospital in Ashtead, Surrey, UK, where he specializes in hip, knee, and foot surgery. He previously worked in the demanding St. George’s Major Trauma Centre in South London and enjoys the comparatively quieter environs of Ashtead Hospital, where he can focus on individual patient care.

The doctor’s education began with an MBBS from the University of London in 1977.  He went on to receive significant specialized orthopaedic training in Glasgow, Nottingham, and London throughout the 1980s.  This included a Fellowship in major trauma and elective arthroscopy at the Sunnybrook Major Trauma Centre in Toronto, Canada in 1987.  In 1992, he was inducted as a Fellow to both the Royal College of Surgeons England and the Royal College of Surgeons Edinburgh.

Mr Bircher has gone on to practice at a number of hospitals in the greater London and Surrey areas over the years.  With his specialist interests in trauma surgery and sports injury, he has seen a great deal of challenging orthopaedic cases in his career.  He is known as a world-renown expert in pelvic and acetabular surgeries and has extensive experience in hip and knee replacements, knee surgery, and foot and ankle surgeries.

Mr Bircher is a member of several professional societies, including serving as a lead councillor for emergency surgery for the Royal College of Surgeons England and a Fellow of the British Orthopaedic Association, among others.  He maintains an active interest in research and publishing, with over 70 major peer-reviewed publications to his name, primarily in the areas of trauma, pelvic surgery, medical negligence, and orthopaedics.  His wealth of skill and talent has earned him prestigious editorial positions for both the Bone and Joint Journal and the journal INJURY.

For patients in need or orthopaedic surgery, particularly in the areas of pelvic/hip, knee, or foot and ankle surgeries, Mr Bircher is an exceptional choice with a wealth of experience and skill.

Brilliant service and excellent analysis of the situation. Great thanks to Mr Bircher.

Mr Bircher you made a wonderful job of my hip replacement. I have no pain and am able to walk everyday as before (my dog is very appreciative) Thank you very much x

Dear Mr Bircher - I will never be able to thank you enough for your amazing work in fixing me and giving me a second chance at life. My family and I are so grateful for this, whilst also giving me a more positive outlook for the future. Since the operations, I have completed my GCSEs and completed my first year of A levels. I have even learnt to sail! The tireless hours and appointments your team and yourself put in to reconstructing my body has been invaluable and has changed my life. Thank you again for all of your amazing work and time, and giving me back a much happier and positive future.

Martin, I have taken your good advice and all has been well with my hip since October. Thank you for all you have done.

Dear Mr Bircher, I thank you so so much for getting my life back on track, the pain for the last 6 months has been dreadful for both me and my wife as she has had to put up with all the restless nights with me. Please have a drink on us for being such a wonderful, clever man.
