Dr Ferran is very professional in his approach. Gave time to diagnose the issue , gave treatment plan and advised me on where I could find information on the condition.
Very professional and honest consultation provided by Nicholas
Very good appointment. I felt he really had time for me, was friendly and reassuring, listened and took time to give me a good work over to check that my symptoms were there and to ascertain what might be causing them. Definitely recommend Mr Ferran.
excellent and well-informed consultant whos comes highly recommended for tackling shoulder issues
Mr Ferran was friendly, helpful and obviously very competent and knowledgeable. WE had a 'hiccup' with an X-Ray and he went out of his way to put it right
I have a very positive impression of Mr Ferran. Within a week from MRI scan of my shoulder, booking an appointment I was in surgery. He explained all about the surgery, and the follow up. Now 2 week after surgery the arm is still in a sling but I have had no complications. I can highly recommend Mr. Ferran
My Consultation with Mr Nicholas Ferran was very reassuring. He organised every possible test to be carried out on my wrist and hand to determine if there was any infection that was causing the acute pain. He arranged a wrist support which helped enormously.
He is so kind to treat me and quick action. So helpful for me.
I have no words other than immensely thank Mr Ferran for the most wonderful, professional and accurate care. Highly recommended.
Thoughtful, professional and very clear in his advice and assisting me in understanding the issues with my injury.
Professional throughout , clear and concise at all stages of my treatment. Post surgery effects were spot on with exactly what was advised and one day in I'm back up an getting on with my day to day life. Thank You Nick, I cant recommend your service high enough.
I was very pleased from the first consultant until Keyhole surgery shoulder with a substantial tear repair an outstanding service provided by Dr Nicholas Farren and the rest of team especially the anaesthetic who was very caring and kind. I would recommend anyone from experience for the outstanding work and services provided both by the consultant and his team including the secretary who is excellent and helpful all the time.
Nick and his team were excellent. He explained the procedure clearly and completely and the benefits of awake surgery. His anaesthetist did the same. I was a little apprehensive at the beginning but I found the process fascinating. Despite being somewhat squeamish by nature
I had no issue watching the whole procedure on the screen and it definitely helped me to understand what Nick found and what exactly he was doing. It also meant recovery was swift and I was back in my room shortly afterwards The effect of the nerve block wore off slowly so I was comfortable when I left the hospital and for the rest of the day at home. I have no hesitation in recommending Nick and his team.
Mr. Ferran was amazing and I am so grateful to be under his care. During my surgery he ensured that I had all the information that I needed as well as encouraged me to express any concerns and answered all my queries. He was professional and calm which made me comfortable and less anxious about the procedure. He led his team exceptionally and worked together which exceeded my expectations. I wish him all the best in helping more patients and a great role model to all healthcare professionals!
Nick recently operated on my right shoulder to remove a calcium build-up. The decision was taken after having first tried physio as well as a steroid injection. Nick recommended a procedure with a local / regional anaesthetic to be done at the Lister Hospital. The process was very smooth. Nick’s team is clearly used to working closely together.
The anaesthetist first numbed my shoulder before using an ultrasound to find and block the nerve running from the neck to the shoulder. This is done lying down with the ultrasound screen in front of the patient in the antechamber to the operating theatre. Nick also used the ultrasound to locate with more precision the calcium build-up. I then walked to the theatre and was made to sit upright, facing a couple of large tv screens. Following additional prep (skin cleaning etc), the camera was inserted to the back of the shoulder to check both joint and ligaments. The images were very clear – and to a large extent fascinating. An additional surgical tool was then inserted to the right of the shoulder joint. It is quite surprising to see it pop out on screen. Nick was then able to locate and remove the calcium, confirming no damage had been done to the ligament. Post-surgery I was brought to the recovery room for about 30 mns and then back to my room. I was discharged a couple of hours later and simply went home by cab armed with painkillers and anti-inflammatories. I was concerned about the level of pain I would experience once the block had worn off but in all fairness the pain was much less than prior to the surgery, to the extent I did not take any pain killers past the first night. For the first 24 hours my shoulder moved very freely and without any discomfort. Thereafter the muscles stiffened but I followed Nick’s recommendation and arranged to see a physio straight away. The muscles stayed stiff for about a week but again the pain was low compared to prior surgery. Now, 3.5 weeks after surgery, I have recovered most of the range of movement. The shoulder muscles need stretching a bit but they are not painful. I have already started doing push-up and building up more resistance in the exercises. The surgery was definitely successful and worth doing. The key holes are already barely noticeable.
The reality of the procedure was certainly a lot less daunting than the thought of it! As I said earlier Nick and his team are not only highly professional but clearly used to working closely together thus providing a very calm and efficient environment whilst the patient is not only awake but anxious. The benefit of the local anaesthetic was obvious: short stay in the hospital, immediate discharge, focus on physio immediately rather than post general anaesthetic effects. I was able to use my arm as soon as the block worn off (highly encouraged by Nick to do so!). I also had the benefit of hearing Nick’s comments throughout the procedure so that I knew straight away that ligaments etc were not damaged and that the calcium had been entirely removed.
Having what feels like a dead arm is odd but this disappeared after about 12 – 18 hours after surgery. I was concerned I would start experiencing pain at some stage through the surgery but that was not the case. The block simply works! Nick also indicated that they have back-up fast active painkillers if required. The only sensation I experienced was pressure and pulling when the surgerical tools were inserted and taken out but that would not register on any pain scale.
I am clearly delighted with the result of the surgery and particularly grateful to Nick and his team. I would highly and genuinely recommend him. I am not particularly squeamish when it comes to needles etc so was not particularly worried about that aspect of the procedure. I was however concerned about experiencing pain during and after the procedure. As I said, however, my concerns were completely unwarranted on both fronts.
Good luck if you are about to go into surgery. You are certainly in good hands if you decide to use Nick and his team.
I was impressed by Mr. Ferran's expertise and thorough explanation and treatment. He identified the problem and offered solutions and recommendations for physical therapy. I am feeling so much better and I am very thankful for Mr. Ferran's help and guidance.
Good knowledge and informative. Thanks.
Very efficient and quick diagnosis with appropriate treatment recommended.
Mr Nicholas Ferran is a truly superb consultant and surgeon. After months of chronic frozen shoulder pain with restricted movement, I met him for my initial consultation. He was approachable and puts you at ease straightaway. He listens to you and explains what treatment plan he intends. He operated on my shoulder in mid June and I had a comfortable recovery afterwards. My shoulder is pain free with full mobility. I am so, so grateful to him and his team. Thank you.
My Aunt would like to thank Nick Ferran with his professional and helpful approach in helping her with sorting her shoulder and suggesting an operation.
My Aunt has asked me to say that you were number One in assisting her.
Thank you on behalf of my Aunt and myself.
We would highly recommend Nick Ferron.
I can commend him for his detailed explanation and high level of attention to my welfare
Mr. Ferran took time to understand my condition and asked a full set of questions to ensure correct diagnosis. He was easy to talk to and not intimidating or dismissing of any of my comments. Very professional and polite :-)
Dr.Nicholas Ferran was in short, excellent. He was very friendly, informative and quick. I was seen, diagnosed and treated in four days for which the NHS would have taken 8 weeks. I'm now pain free for a shoulder complaint i went to him for. I would highly recommend Dr. Ferran - i also wish to pass on my compliments to the staff at HCA Chiswick who made me feel very comfortable and took card of everything in speedy and professional manner during my assessment scans.
Very down to earth and understanding, happy to answer any and every question I have and doesn’t rush. Explains things clearly in a way that makes it easy for me to understand. Thanks!
In my first consultation with Mr Ferran he examined my shoulder and movement very gently, mindful of my pain. He explained possible causes & treatment. I went immediately for an x-ray, from which he was able to diagnose a frozen shoulder. After further discussion, he administered a steroid injection. I will see him again in two months for a follow up/check up. Mr Ferran was personable, thorough and very considerate. My entire appointment took 1hr.5m. - very impressive! I have no hesitation in offering Mr Ferran my highest recommendation and thanks.
From my first appointment through to my surgery and follow up appointments Mr Ferran took great care to explain my options, treatment plan, and possible outcomes. I felt involved in all decisions which was really important to me. I have had a good recovery and felt supported by Mr Ferran through the whole process and feel very fortunate to have had him as my surgeon.
As a Physio I know not all surgeons are equal so when I broke my collarbone i wasn’t keen on the idea of going under the knife. Luckily Nick Ferran came highly recommended by a fellow colleague, and was able to see me. I honestly can’t fault my care - from his obvious breadth of knowledge and wealth of experience as a surgeon I felt like I was in good hands from my initial consultation. Also there is clearly great communication between himself and his team which lead to a stress free experience.
Very helpful and informative
Really kind and helpful as I was completely ignorant of options and solutions. Made me feel hopeful of a successful outcome. Huge thanks.
Excellent from start to finish and this includes his anaesthetist.
Professional, comprehensive service satisfying all my concerns.
Mr Ferran was courteous and professional at our appointment. We were left with an impression of a someone one on top of his field of medical practice because of the way he was able to diagnose and explain the injury. He was also willing to work with me, given my concerns, at my pace, to resolve the problem. That was really comforting for me.
