Mr Omar Khan is a Consultant General Surgeon who currently practices at a number of locations in the UK, including Ashtead, Surrey, Oxford, and North Cheam. His specialities include gastrointestinal and weight loss/bariatric surgeries, with particular expertise in minimally-invasive procedures (sometimes known as keyhole surgeries), which are often called “scarless” surgery for their limited size, scarring, and quick recovery. The doctor has performed over 1,000 keyhole procedures, making him a seasoned veteran in this area.
Mr Khan began his medical training with his BChir (Bachelor of Surgery) from Cambridge in 1997, followed quickly by his MB in 1998. He received his clinical training on rotations in Nottingham and Southampton and was granted his PhD in obesity and cardiovascular disease. The doctor then went on to be appointed as a consultant Surgeon of Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgery at St. George’s Hospital in London, where he also remains as the lead general surgeon for Trauma.
Mr Khan was also inducted as a Fellow into the Royal College of Surgeons and is a member of several professional societies, including membership in the Association of Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeons, British Obesity and Metabolic Surgery Society, and the International Federation of Obesity Surgery. In addition, the doctor is on the National Bariatric Registry Committee.
He also is active in several other areas, including being an expert witness for court cases where specialist opinions on medically-related legal matters are concerned. He continues to be involved in research and is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at St. George’s Medical School in London. Mr Khan has over 160 published articles to his name, and his research into weight loss and bariatric surgery has been published in the prestigious medical journal Lancet, gaining him much national and international press.
