About

Mr Patrick O'Brien qualified as a doctor in Ireland in 1987 and completed the majority of his postgraduate training in London. He is a specialist in Maternal Medicine and high-risk obstetrics, with a particular interest in complications of pregnancy.

He has been working as a Consultant and Honorary Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at University College London Hospitals since 1999. In addition to this, he has also been an Honorary Senior Lecturer at University College London and jointly runs a multi-disciplinary antenatal clinic involving consultants in Fetal Medicine, Cardiology, Haematology, Diabetes, Anaesthesia, and an Obstetric Physician.

Currently, he is the Divisional Clinical Director for Women's Health and he lectures widely in the UK and abroad. Mr O'brien also works as an Obstetric Advisor for the BBC and is a media spokesperson for the Royal College of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists.

An advocate of research and its importance, Mr O'Brien is a reviewer for the Cochrane Collaboration and several medical journals, alongside sitting on the Editorial Boards of the Journal of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and the BJM.
