PT
Obstetrician & Gynaecologist
Edgbaston, B5 7UG
Having achieved his lifelong ambition to become a Doctor, Philip was driven to a career in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. His inquisitive nature led him to take a break from clinical training to undertake a research fellowship with the world-renowned Urogynaecologist Linda Cardozo. It was during this time that Philip discovered his love for Urogynaecology and drive to help women with pelvic floor dysfunction. His thesis from this fellowship was into the changes to the female pelvis due to pregnancy and childbirth, and maternal childbirth injury remains one of his passions. His ongoing curiosity has inspired him to be actively involved in research for over 30 years running a clinical research programme and to translate research into better understanding of conditions and as a consequence into better outcomes for women. His mantra is to provide a holistic approach which is patient centric, allowing women to choose the right treatment for themselves.
Philip is acknowledged as a key opinion leader in many areas of the management of prolapse and urinary incontinence.
He has published over 230 articles in Urogynaecology and his current research interests include psychological impact of urinary incontinence, the impact of obesity and improving outcomes for women at risk of pre term birth. His contribution to Urogynaecology was recognised by the Department of Health and he is one of only a very few Urogynaecologists with a national silver CEA award.
In his spare time Philip enjoys spending time walking with his wife, three grown up children and his dog, Spud.

UROGYNAECOLOGY
I gained experience of Urogynaecology prior to being
appointed as research fellow and subsequently as a year 4/5 SpR at Kings
College Hospital. My training included undertaking a dedicated period of training
equivalent to subspecialty training (prior to recognition of this post for
subspecialty training).
I was employed in July 2000 as the lead clinician for
Urogynaecology and subsequently director of Pelvic floor medicine at BWH a
position I relinquished this after 16 years. The service is responsible for the
south of Birmingham with an expanding referral service with facilities to
investigate and treat patients at a tertiary level. Since January 2007 I have
worked exclusively in gynaecology and predominantly Urogynaecology.
In 2003 I was accredited as a subspecialty trainer in
Urogynaecology and this programme has run continuously since 2004-2022. I have
now stepped down as lead.
Our recent innovations include research into the role
of Laser and also novel electrical therapies for OAB. I also have an interest
in obesity and its impact on LUTS
