About

Mr Rajiv Sanger is a consultant orthopedic surgeon with a specialist interest in hip and knee arthroplasty surgery and sports medicine.

He is highly experienced in primary and revision hip and knee joint replacements. This includes unicompartmental "partial" knee replacements, knee arthroscopic surgeries and knee osteotomies for the management of osteoarthritis. Every year, Mr Sanger carries out an average of over 250 total hip and total knee replacements, and over 50 knee arthroscopies in his NHS and private practice.

Mr Sanger trained as a medical graduate at The University of Delhi (India) and completed his postgraduate degree (MS Orth) in orthopaedic surgery at the same university too. Upon moving to the UK, he obtained further training and postgraduate qualifications in general surgery and orthopaedic surgery, including a Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh UK (FRCS Ed) in 1991, a Masters in Orthopaedic Surgery (MCh Orth) at University of Liverpool (UK) in 1995 and a Fellowship of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh (UK) in Trauma and Orthopaedics (FRCS Tr and Orth) in 1999. During this time, Mr Sanger also completed Specialty Fellowships in Arthroplasty Surgery and Sports Medicine from the Orthopaedic and Arthritic Hospital in Toronto (Canada) and Wrightington Hospital in the UK. He went on to receive a Completion of Orthopedic Training certificate in 2000, and was appointed as a substantive consultant in the NHS in 2001.

Mr Sanger is a lead for the National Hip Fracture Database, Advancing Quality, and the National Joint Register. He is also head of trauma at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Mr Sanger teaches orthopedics to undergaduate medical students from Liverpool Medical School and is currently Honorary Senior Clinical lecturer with Faculty of Medical sciences. F1 and F2 doctors (junior doctors) and specialist registrars. He delivers health education seminars as well as regular training workshops to local GPs. He also serves as an examiner for the FRCS Orth Exam and is on the faculty of FRCS Orth Training Courses.

Mr Sanger has looked after me for a couple of years all good information and gave me injections for my knee pain which helped treamemdously and I think helped with the build up to my right knee total replacement.

Rather brusk attitude, felt very rushed at times. Have got my life back however, no pain when walking and lost 3 stone thanks to Mr Sangers comments and have kept the weight off !
