Has been a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon specialising in Vitreoretinal surgery and Cataract surgery at Bristol Eye Hospital since 2001.

Has a national vitreoretinal profile and is the Professional Standards Lead for the British Association of Vitreoretinal Surgeons.

Awarded National Clinical Excellence Award 2018.

Enjoys sailing, is an enthusiastic cyclist and is the drummer in the hospital band.

Specialises in cataract surgery including both routine and complex cases such as patients with high myopia or previous trauma.

Expertise in Vitreoretinal surgery for conditions such as epiretinal membrane, macular hole, retinal detachment, vitreous opacities (floaters) and diabetic retinopathy with haemorrhage. Performs day-case combined cataract and vitreoretinal surgery under local or general anaesthetic.

Specialist research interest in the Genetic susceptibility to endophthalmitis (severe eye infection) - is the Chief Investigator for an international multi-centre randomised controlled trial on Defensin gene mutations that lead to an increased risk of infections.

Other specialist research interests include retinal detachment, macular hole, epiretinal membrane and surgery for the reconstruction of traumatised eyes including prosthetic iris and scleral fixated intraocular lens implantation.

Has 45 peer reviewed publications including high impact journals: The Lancet, BJO, Retina and Eye.
